Sue,

I don't even know what MonaVie is, but there are reputable labs that can

test the oxalate content of this and other products for a fee. We are

trying to get our own lab up and running for oxalate testing but have had a

lot of delays as we lost our scientist who was running this part of our

project. This type of information is cut and dried science. If those

making or selling this product need it tested for oxalates, then they

should contact me or the VP Foundation.

Our oxalate listserve recommends people avoiding using products that have

not been tested by a reputable lab, as there is no way they can know they

are getting low enough oxalate without that information.

I am looking for resources for low oxalate foods. I think you may have posted this before but I lost track of it. Are there books, websites, etc that list no, low, medium and high oxalate foods? Also, can you remind me how to go about finding/joining the list serve?

Thanks,

Dana

Dana,

There are many medical non-profits on the web that have posted their lists,

but I found out at the beginning of our project that the lists don't always

agree. This is frustrating but there is a reason this happens that we need

to be aware of anyway.

Plants produce oxalate to store calcium in cells they call

idioblasts. First the plant makes vitamin C and then it converts the

vitamin C to oxalate. Our bodies convert vitamin C to oxalate, too, though

not much is understood about what influences the rate of conversion.

At any rate, other factors, like fertilizer and the temperature, and other

issues of cultivation can change the amount of oxalate in a plant

food. Different varieties of the same fruit or vegetable can not only have

different amounts of oxalate, but the oxalate can also end up stored in

different parts of the plant. Almost all seeds and nuts are high oxalate,

and that is what makes grains also tend to be high, but some peels are

extremely high oxalate and others not. There just aren't too many hard and

fast rules to use as guidelines. With all these differences there are

still huge tendencies that make some foods extremely high oxalate. Those

are the foods you avoid altogether, as the oxalate in one serving can be as

high as ten or twenty days worth of oxalate on a low oxalate diet.

But, this explains why labs may differ if they are measuring the same

food. One lab may have measured one variety of apple, say, and another

measured a different variety. Maybe one lab got its apple from Chile, or

Florida, and the other from Washington State. The cultivation conditions

would be different.

That is why early in our project I found every legitimate list I could find

on the web and consolidated a master list. Some foods are marked in two

categories because the lists differed in what they reported. That master

list is on our website sorted in various ways to make it convenient to

use. Even so, it only classifies foods as high, medium or low, or

extremely high. That works as a general guideline, but we found on our

list that it was helpful to do this diet like calorie counting. The VP

Foundation hired a scientist to revisit and test foods using a new

methodology they felt was more reliable, and he reported that information

in tables in the back of the Low Oxalate Cookbook, Version 2. I haven't

actually counted it, but I bet their list is twice as long or at least half

again as long as the consolidated list I made. This opens up more

possibilities for food variety. The book also gives mgs per serving, which

is extremely useful. This way, you might be able to use just a tad of a

higher food as a seasoning, or mixed into a food that was really low

otherwise, so that the overall oxalate in a serving was low enough. That

is why we recommend purchasing this cookbook to all our new subscribers on

our list even though most of the recipes do not work so well for people who

have lots of food intolerances like we run into in the autism community.

Our listserve is not just for autism, by the way. People subscribe who

have kidney stones, or cystic fibrosis, or fibromyalgia, or other

conditions where oxalates have been implicated. Many of our parents have

reduced oxalates with their children and gotten rid of all sorts of their

own chronic problems like carpal tunnel syndrome, and cysts, congestion,

and all sorts of odd chronic things. That is why our list gets really

interesting as we hear what is changing when people reduce the amount of

this toxic substance that is higher in certain foods.

Why hasn't oxalate always been a problem as it is now? I think the

difference is the leaky gut! Ordinarily only 1-2% of the oxalate in a food

is absorbed, but if your gut is leaky, the number is more like

15%. Oxalate isn't toxic in small amounts, but it is extremely toxic in

large amounts. The $64 hundred question is: Why do so many people have a

leaky gut now?

If anyone wants me to email them a copy of the consolidated list, I can do

that if you'll write me offlist at LWO@.... I do encourage you to

join our list, though, if you start to try the diet, as there can be

adverse reactions that occur as the oxalates clear tissues, and we have a

lot of experience about how to deal with those reactions and not get

discouraged. Similar to this list and Valtrex, the best results tend to

come in people after the worst crises! With 1600 people on our list, we

are bound to have run into what would happen to you or your child!

I think the biggest thing we've learned is that oxalates can be involved

with chronic pain issues, delays in growth, problems someone has in

initating things like movement and speech, and problems in bowel issues

that won't heal. Energy is a big thing, too, which is why I covered the

science of WHY that would be true in my talk at AutismOne.

We have a list in our files section that I compiled of things that parents

said changed in their children after months on the diet, and it is a pretty

amazing list. Anyway, if there is anyway we can help you with this, let us

know!

Hi from Sue,

I would LOVE to have you test MonaVie for oxalate levels...

as the bottles and gels so far that I 've used seem to indicate it

is a low oxalate food....according to my muscle testing.

I've only taken it now for three weeks, and have seen

such a contrast in my skin --no more acne --just as the Brazilians

have talked about for 300 years.. according to the literature--

(Last night I couldn't find my bottle of Pro -Active,

.... I think it's a sign I can give up acne treatments

forever...or as long as I use MonaVie...lol )...

I've had mild acne for about 50 years now.. ever since I was 10.

I can't tell you how exciting it is not to deal with it!

You said you never heard of it...I didn't either until a month ago.

That may be due to it has only been around for two years

but I have several testimonies of families with Autism that have used it

so I thought I'd give it a try for my spectrum disorders.

I'll attach those at the bottom...but there are 2 different links you can

go to to find out more about it.. 19 different fruits blended.

While a few fruits in themselves.. may be higher on the oxalate scale--

the proportion of low oxalates fruits may off set higher oxalate foods

in it to be overall to make it a low oxalate food.?? Just guessing on that...

--will be great to get a third party to test it...Thanks for offering!

The links are www.thegreatproduct.com/albertabound or

www.mymonavie.com/sthorpe . Each has different things on it.

If you email Lynne any questions from the first site.. put

Sue : Mona Vie...in the subject..so she knows it isn't spam.

(I plan to get a NONprofit website in the future as I did with LW..

but the site above for MonaVie is all I can afford right now.)

Proceeds will also go the the Autism Research Institute for that

as well as the LW ones do now.....

Stan... by the way I haven't received my tax receipt from the

last donation yet. ... just an email . How long does it take?

Another excellent source is the Magazine called Success...

it's a mainstream (Third party) magazine that evaluates

companies and their products.... The July issue that came out

at Borders and and Noble --just this past weekend

features it on the front cover

and has more than 80% of the magazines articles in it are written

about the juice, how the Acai berry is harvested ( which is the main

berry in this juice..).. and more on the companies philanthropies with

the poor children of the Brazilian Rain Forest, etc.

( It's nice to know MonaVie is helping to save the rain forest--

by buying the Acai berry found there.. so poachers no longer

cut down the trees... it is more economical for them to harvest

them... and sell the berries to MonaVie, the biggest buyer, etc.)

As I mentioned in past posts... I have ELIMINATED my need for

pill supplements for the daily B3, B6, Zinc, Vitamins A,D,K, E,

C, and Glucosamine & chondrotin, EFA's, .... & .Cal/Mag.

and Raw Thyroid..95% of the time.....

as well as the other liquid whole food supplements like Barley

Grass, and Sea Veggies that I USED to take.. before MonaVie

all per muscle testing. ..

The following I 've been able to reduce my extra intake dramatically;

for Taurine, Lysine, Candex, DHEA, Borage oil, & enzymes.

I still take MB12nasal spray with folinic..but not as often..

and also continue to take assorted probiotics.

(As I mentioned before... That Acai berry is an ANTI inflammatory since it is found to have cox 1 and cox 2 inhibitors INHERENTLY in it.

And that's why it helps so many different conditions.. from my Acne, to Autoimmune disorders and neurological conditions, skin conditions, high blood pressure, and so much more. Interesting I see many testimonials on it helping diabetes... since it has a low glycemic index... and since it has has the protein equivalent to an egg.. When a diabetic friend of mine had a taste of it in my living room last week, she tested herself after and found her blood sugar reading went DOWN! )

Subject: School for Autism in Chicago using Monavie

"Monavie is a product that has had a lot of success with autism, in fact there is a school in Chicago for autistic children that have added it to their diets because of the success they have seen. Certainly everyone should do their own research on a product for validity. I hope that people give it a try for the benefits, I know anything that makes life easier is a good thing. There is a lot of information out there about the product and the main ingredient (acai berry) letting you know the benefits. "--from the net....

MY STORY ( from the Hartigans)

August 2006

Let me tell you how Monavie has touched my life. I am the father of 8 year old triplets B/G/G, one of whom has autism. My son was diagnosed with autism 6 years ago and I thought his life was over. We consulted with doctor after doctor, and even traveled around the state to try and find help for our son. After trying everything the doctors recommended, we did not see any change in our son's condition. We sought out the best therapist and tried to enroll him in a special program in our public school district. After numerous meeting with the school and therapists, we decided to pull him out of public school and home school him. This was a huge responsibility on my wife and was rewarding to see his academic achievement. But, the one thing he was lacking in was social interaction and awareness of others. Being home schooled put a huge deficit in an area he was already lacking in. So we decided to move to another county and try a new special education program to try and recapture the socialization deficiency our son had. During the first year back in public school, there was regression in the skills our son had already mastered. We opted to request for a one on one personal aide to help our son focus on academics and engage in more social settings with regular education students. This was very challenging due to his lack of communication skills. In the summer of 2006 my family was introduced to Monavie. With huge skepticism because of all that we have been through, I decided to try a bottle of Active Monavie without telling anyone. I started feeling great, had more mental focus, and was not nearly as tired as I was before. I decided to give my wife a bottle of Active and have her try it to see if it would help her bad hip and back. She had been in 2 car accidents over the last 4 years resulting in a broken hip and bad SI joints in her back causing large amounts of inflammation. She noticed a difference after 1 week. She started decreasing her medications and eventually stopped taking them all. After these huge successes, we started doing private research on Monavie. We found that it was helping all kinds of conditions and parents were having huge success treating ADHD. (For those who don't know ADHD is on the Autism spectrum) We decided to try our son on a bottle of Original Monavie to see what results we would see. We saw some improvements with speech and mental focus but not a huge amount. My wife decided to research Monavie Active to see what the different ingredients were and why our son did not see huge results on the Original. She found out that the Active contained essential fatty acids and glyconutrients. These ingredients were deficiencies in children with autism. Because of the autoimmune disorders most autistic children have, these were key nutrients that their bodies needed. Once we started our son on the Active he did a 360 degree turn around. He is now speaking full sentences and has much better mental clarity. We have received reports back from Speech and OT therapist that have asked what are we doing that has created an explosion of growth and communication in our child. Our son has is now being mainstreamed into regular education for Language Arts and Reading, five days a week. This is something we never thought he would be able to accomplish. By the end of the second nine weeks they want to mainstream for Math too!

Update 2/16/07 Our son is doing so awesome. Attended yet another IEP meeting to find out-starting next school year(Aug 07) our son will be completely released from the autism program at school and placed in a VE classroom. He will continue to attend an regular education class for Reading, Language Arts, Lunch and specials. He is on grade level in all academics, and has even scored one of the highest on his Dibbles test in regular ed reading. We have been speaking with several different families lately about the success of Monavie and their children. Every child is different when it comes to dosage, so depending on your childs metabolism, he or she may need more or less. Making sure Monavie is taken with a meal or snacks seems to work much better as well

Note from Sue: I also find it suppresses my appetite or cravings especially for sugary foods..

Maybe that's why most of the testimonials Below -----

..........were found on the site :

"Calming Weight...Weighted products for Children with special needs" ?

"HiI have another success story. One of my patients in OT who is a teen age Aspergers child started Monavie active-2oz in morning and 2oz in evening. Within 3 days, mom called me to order more. Child told mom he feels calmer and his stomach does not hurt like it was hurting. His mother described nighttime as very difficult as child usually has meltdowns and irritable. He had no trouble calming down for bedtime, and although he took it later at night (possible kept him awake) he did not fret. He went to sleep and actually slept a little later in the morning. Mom said this never happens. He is always up at the same time no matter when he went to sleep. I asked his mom to keep a behavior journal for me so that I can share it with others. Mom stated she is going to try to take him off all his meds as he drinks the juice longer. This child has other diagnoses as well-OCD, Bipolar, ADD-HD. I am so excited for this family as well as my other families. I will keep you posted."

" I have a nine year old autistic son that has been taking Monavie for a month now. I can't believe the results that we have had in just this short of time. He is now using descriptive words something he has never done .We are actually having some real conversations now!!! He seems so much happier and peaceful he can actually concentrate and sit still for more than a few seconds! He is also sleeping something he has never done from the time he was born. He averages about 5 to 6 hours a night if I'm lucky but since taking Monavie he actually has slept for 12 hours one night. I awoke and was scared out of my mind I immediately thought something was wrong with him!!! I have now begun to write in a journal so I can keep up with his progress. Everyday is now filled with hope and excitement he does or says something new everyday. It is almost like having a baby that is beginning to talk. He did not talk until he was almost five so this is very exciting for us. This product is the miracle we have been praying for. I can't wait for what the future now holds for him and others who have been diagnosed with such a heartbreaking illness. I hope now that I can help other families who are going through this horrible nightmare!!!!!" ( Posted on the web = Monavie Moms)"Just wanted to give an update about my 7 year old son, Caleb. He has a diagnosis of Down Syndrome, ADHD, SID and possibly other undiagnosed challenges. I began giving him the MV Active due to the benefits for his loose joints and low muscle tone. He started on it on Dec. 29, 2006. Started with 1/2 ounce and now up to one ounce in the morning.""Gradually, we got him off his Adderall. He is a totally different child now!! No awful side effects. His special ed. teachers are documenting his progress from an academic standpoint as well as his behavior. I am so thankful for his progress. His OT is very impressed with his progress as well. His speech has improved, he is more calm now and can focus on the task at hand so much better.I have seen significant results in me as well with regards to the reduction of my Candida overgrowth from yeast due to hypothyroidism. I have renewed strength and am detoxing much better. My digestive system is eliminating much better. I feel less toxic each day and with less "brain fog."

"Two of my parents who have autistic children have been giving MONAvie for 3 weeks now. Both have had success. One child is starting to become aware of environment and responding to mom leaving room at night for bedtime. Child even aware of massage on hips. Mom stopped massaging hips and child put mom's hand right back on the spot where she was massaging. The other child participated in sing and dance at school in a group of children for first time in school. The teacher was in tears and could not believe it. In therapy, both children are more aware and responding with eye contact. One child caught a ball for the first time with 2 hands without turning head. Eye contact and focus so much better. Speech for both children is improving.....their minds are engaged with tasks. I will continue to recommend this to my patients. Both are on the ACTIVE blend. After speaking with another OT friend, one child she knows is taking 2 oz Active 3x day with food snack. The mom believes the snack helps it work longer. Good luck. It has been working for my OT children who I have in therapy. Both parents are tracking new successes every day."

"As I shared on a previous entry, I give my 7 year old (almost 8) son the MonaVie Active. We are seeing fabulous success with his focus and speech. He has Down Syndrome, ADHD, SID and possibly some form of PDD. The teachers are very encouraged by his progress. There are no side effects which we can see. He has been on the juice since Dec. 29, 2006. Started off with 1/2 ounce in the morning and now up to 1 oz. Hope this helps. I spoke with my Certified Nutritionist about the Active versus the Original, and she said there was not any reason which should keep my son from having the Active MV"

"First of all my son is very high functioning and is doing extremely well on the Monavie Active. We did try the original and did not have noticeable changes. Glucosamine is a glyconutrient and glyconutrients are a deficiency in autism. I am not a scientist that studies this for a living, I just know what has helped my son, and what is helping many other autistic children. It is also been noted that the Active is helping ADHD children as well, these children are also on the autism spectrum with positive results with no negative side effects. We have tried many other supplements and treatments, and none have been as great as Monavie."

"I wrote on another autism thread about my son but since this one is rolling along, I have to jump in. Zach is 6 and high functioning autistic, and very globally delayed. He is on the MonaVie Original for a little over a month. After 3 weeks we noticed a significant improvement - we thought it might be just wishful thinking on our part. But his teacher made a point of asking what we were doing with Zach, and said "it's like someone flipped a switch". He is now more conversational instead of just echolalic, he will tell us about his day. He listens to instructions and actually follows them. In class he is grasping concepts, his behavior has improved, and he is transitioning well. We spent Saturday with his best friend and his mom was stunned at the changes she sees. Yesterday and today he dressed himself fully for the first time - he was able to disrobe, but had difficulty with getting clothes on because of his gross and fine motor delays. Zachary also takes a product called Ambrotose made by Mannatech - it contains those 8 essential glyconutrients It comes in a powder form and we mix it into his yogurt. Also MannaBears - which are like gummy bears made with fruits and vegetables. He's been on those products since he was 2 or so. We noticed a slight improvement when he started them. Since adding the MonaVie Original, it is like night and day. We are looking forward to seeing what the next month holds...."

Hope these help,

Sue

P.S. Note: most do better on MonaVie active than Original... and now they have a new GEL form which muscle tests even better for my husband and I so we take 2--0z of ACTIVE in the morning and one GEl packet at night... usually right after the meal as our dessert... Some say it's better with meals..

But sometimes I just take it alone.. if I'm on the go.. and need a quick "meal" to tide me through to the next meal..nice protein source --

I will email the company to see if one of the two doctors has done any

testing on that already... and if not--- will give them your email so

hopefully it can be done...!

She starte! d decreasing her medications and eventually stopped taking them all. He is now speaking full sentence! s and has much better mental clarity. Making sure Monavie is taken with a meal or snacks seems to work much better as wellNote from Sue: I also find it suppresses my appetite or cravings especially for sugary foods..Maybe that's why most of the testimonials Below -----.........were found on the site :"Calming Weight...Weighted products for Children with special needs" ?"HiI have another success story. I will keep you posted. & quo! t; " I have a nine year old autistic son that has been taking Monavie for a month now. This product is t! he miracle we have been praying for. I feel less toxic each day and with less "brain fog." "Two of my parents who have autistic children have been giving MONAvie for 3 weeks now. The mom beli! eves the snack helps it work longer. Good luck. It has been working for my OT children who I have in therapy. Both parents are tracking new successes every day." "As I shared on a previous entry, I give my 7 year old (almost 8) son the MonaVie Active. I spoke with my Certified Nutritionist about the Active versus the Original, and she said there was not any reason which should keep my son from having the Active MV" "First of all my son is very high functioning and is doing extremely well on the Monavie Active. We have tried many other supplements and treatments, and none have been as great as Monavie." "I wrote on another autism thread about my son but since this one is rolling along, I have to jump in. Zachary also takes a p! roduct called Ambrotose made by Mannatech - it contains those 8 essential glyconutrients It comes in a powder form and we mix it into his yogurt. Also MannaBears - which are like gummy bears made with fruits and vegetables. He's been on those products since he was 2 or so. We noticed a slight improvement when he started them. Since adding the MonaVie Original, it is like night and day. We are looking forward to seeing what the next month holds...."Hope these help,Sue P.S. Note: most do better on MonaVie active than Original... and now they have a new GEL form which muscle tests even better for my husband and I so we take 2--0z of ACTIVE in the morning and one GEl packet at night... usually right after the meal as our dessert... Some say it's better with

I personally thought Mona Vie is high in oxylates as it contains: blueberries & kiwi which are high oxylates. I'm not sure if acai berry, wolfberry, pomegranate, bilberry also in the juuice or high oxylates. Of medium oxylates in the juice are: pear, prunes, cranberry.

I personally love the mona vie and it's a wonderful antioxidant, my asd son however would wake up in the middle of the night in stomach pains from it. I'm not sure if this added to my sons elevated oxylates levels or if it was the cause for him. Unfortunate for us because it does have alot of great benefits from it.

For those wanting to know, it's obtained through a multi-level marketing so that part I didn't particularly find attractive.

Becky

Re: PS... a low oxylate food

The marketing thing is a real turn-off to me too. I don't even read those posts anymore. I think you may have posted this before but I lost track of it. Are there books, websites, etc that list no, low, medium and high oxalate foods? Also, can you remind me how to go about finding/joining the list serve? Thanks, Dana -----Original

HI Becky and from Sue,

My Theory for the reason that MonaVie test's well for me as a low oxalate

food---through muscle testing---( not 100% as we all know---)

.... maybe be due to the larger proportion of the of low oxalate fruits in it may

off set the few known high oxalate foods that are in this 19 fruit blended juice...

bringing the overall value down to a low oxalate food.

I'm waiting now to see if the company has any info on it's oxalate levels..

If they don't ...I'm going to encourage them to do the testing...

--

Can you tell me what the cost of testing the 3 types of juice would be in your lab,

and give me the contact email and persons that the company could arrange such a study?

Or if your lab is not ready yet to do so... what lab and contact would you reccommend.?

Becky, while you said you loved it.. you said your son had a stomach ache in the middle of the night.

Do you think it could've been from something else he ate?...

Here's an account from an OT of another family with an Aspergers son who said it helped his stomach...

"HiI have another success story. One of my patients in OT who is a teen age Aspergers child started Monavie active-2oz in morning and 2oz in evening. Within 3 days, mom called me to order more. I am so excited for this family as well as my other families. I will keep you posted."

I look forward to getting MonaVie tested for oxalates since there are so many benefitting from it.

Thanks for your comments,

Sue
