I've used the boxed stuff in the past to make kefir. It does work but you have to be careful. There is a fine line where if you ferment it too long, it can turn to alcohol. There are a lot of experienced BEDers on the Yahoo Message Board called BEDROK. It is the Body Ecology Diet for beginners but a lot of people on the board have been doing kefir and the BED diet for a long time. Most of them use the coconuts but you can use the boxed water and/or Cocobiotic.

I'm not but we do Valtrex 3x a day.  Never did twice a day so I can't tell you if there is a difference but I can say that I hear a lot of people that say they used it 2x see better results when upped to 3x.  Again, no personal experience, though.  And yes, in my opinion, an Rx antifungal is *necessary* and it's used for the duration of the Valtrex - which can be quite a lengthy commitment.  This is why we do bloodwork every 2 months - to monitor the liver.CherylI want to know if she did valtrex with Baxter too. What dosage, and for how long? Did she use Diflucan too? What dose, and how long? Our son has been on Diflucan for 5 months (100mg/day) and Valtrex for three months (250mg 2x/day). I am wondering whether to up the valtrex to 3x/day? Anyone seen big changes after upping from 2x to 3x? We are ramping up to start this kefir this week. , how do you feel coconut kefir compares to using VSL#3 or large

doses of Klaire probiotics?

I made the kefir but my son didn't like it (he's very taste sensitive)

so I ended up drinking it. Yum!

He's good about taking pills and the VSL#3, so I'm wondering if that's

good enough... He's not a huge gut kid but does have a history of

clostridia/yeast that often requires Rx. Who knows what goes on in

there? He's never been scoped...

That's a dairy based product - definitely not CF.  Henry's and Jimbo's both carry this brand of keifer.  My son older boy, not on the diet, likes the peach flavor.Nora There is!!!  Helios Nutrition makes it and its approved by the BED diet people. Ingrid, I couldn't agree more.All our kids are soooo different and we have to find what works for them.I know of many kids that didn't even use diet to recover so that suggests to me that our kids may develop ASD for different reasons.I personally don't jump on every treatments anymore.We have been doing this for 4 years already.Some treatments work for some kids,a few recover and the rest of us have a further way to go.just my 2 cents.Ingrid Julyk wrote: I'm no

I'm not but I thought I would respond since I've dabbled in BED, coconut kefir and VSL#3.

Would your son take a very small amount of coconut kefir in a syringe, juice or mixed w/supplements, like say 1/8-1/4 of a teaspoon to start? Donna Gates recommends introducing it very slowly to ease the effects of yeast die-off. Before I realized my son was allergic to coconut, this is how we introduced it and over time, he was looking for it and drinking up to 4 ounces at a time. He really took to it and no longer wanted it flavored or in juice. I think because it really helped eliminate his sugar cravings.

I've heard VSL#3 has been great for some kids but I didn't really see any benefits, so we stopped it. It does have trace amounts of casein in it, although I think it's pretty minute because my son is super sensitive and had no adverse effects from it.

Have you ever tried saccromyces boulardi (a beneficial yeast/pre-biotic) for his yeast or goldenseal for his bacteria? Both of these products have helped my son tremendously and have eliminated the need for an Rx, although I don't know if that would be enough if we were to go back on Valtrex.

Just found this video clip that teaches you how to open a young coconut.

I'm one of those people that didn't even know what a young coconut looks like even if I tripped over one. Now I know what to look for in the stores.

Another option is NOW just came out with a high-potency coconut oil soft gel so for the kids who can swallow capsules this might be another way.

You can use coconut oil to cook things like eggs or some people just eat it off the spoon although I don't think that would be an option here.

As far as I know, Wild Oats only carries the pre-made dairy type kefir. I know they sometimes carry the coconuts. Because I never went that route and used the boxed juice, I haven't noticed if they always carry them.

I don't have time right now but later I will find the instructions on how to make the coconut kefir. I found them over a year ago on the BED website.

I think this would be a good antifungal (similar to caprylic acid) but without the probiotic quality unless the gel is somehow fermented.

if your child is not sensitive to casien, then would it still be a good option?

I think if your child does not have severe gut issues, it is probably a good option since Donna Gates (I believe) recommends it once the gut is healed.

Whoohoo, i just found out that cocobiotics is made in Australia!, I

just ordered 4 bottles as thay offered free postage within Australia,

and had it at $22.00AUD per bottle,the rep i spoke to said Donna

Gates was just in Sydney speaking about it at a seminar.

Hope this is going to help sort out my sons gut issues, will keep you

updated...
