Guest guest
Thanks, Jen! My cat supposedly has diabetes, but I think he has other stuff going on, too - He has extreme weight loss - and in spite of eating like a horse (literally) he doesn't gain weight - he is probably under 5lbs now. He is weak overall. And, the peeing is out of control - I think he may be experiencing kidney failure. They thought he might have a tumor at one point (the x-rays were inconclusive and I didn't want to pay for more testing when the vet basically told me he wouldn't survive surgery anyway). They tested him for hyper-thyroidism and that test was negative. So, I'm gonna have to bite the bullet and make the "apppointment" *SIGH* Donna From: Donna M-P <donna112520@ yahoo.com>Subject: Sunday - I did a FIRM!!!To: exercisevideos@ yahoogroups. com, "fitnbusy moms" <fitnbusymoms@ yahoogroups. com>, FitFirmies@yahoogro ups.comDate: Sunday, June 7, 2009, 9:24 AM Hi, I did a FIRM today! I can't remember the last time I did a FIRM workout, but it was before last September some time! I went with w/ a "tame" one, and one that split upper and lower body vs. using compound moves. I do normally perfer compound exercises, but i need to build back up to doing those and learn proper form to protect my back on those types of exercises. Anyway, I went with Super Body Sculpt (I think that it is the title?) It is the one lead by Huckabee, that came out after the first Body Sculpting Kit - so it is from 2002-ish, I think. Anyway, this one has three distinct sections one upper, one lower and one abs. The exercises are all straight forward. I went pretty heavy on upper and I'm happy to see I haven't lost any strength - I used what I would have used last year for this workout. Those push-ups have kept me strong! Lower body was a mix of what you would expect from the FIRM - squats, lunges, leg presses, etc. I did this section without weights - I'm still protecting my back and learning the proper form to protect it in the future when I can add weights. The ab section was short, but felt pretty effective. After that I did the "muscle chains" workouts i recorded from PBS (Classical Stretch). This is one of my favorites b/ce it does hit all my tight spots very well. My back/hips and hamstrings are tight today - most likely from doing a lot of housework yesterday. Tomorrow is cardio - short-ish probably 30 minutes - and I'll probably use the TM. DD's school is planning a 5K for the fall, I'd love to be able to run it! I have to figure out the best way to get up to doing that. In my "younger" days I ran all the time. I'll have to do some searching around for 5K programs. Following the short cardio I'm planning on Classical Stretch - Athletes Intense Stretch. It has been awhile since i did that one and I hope it works on my remaining tight areas. Oh - on a sad note, I think I have to put my cat to sleep this week. He is still losing weight - and he's really peeing everywhere. I have him confined to one area of the house now to minimize the damage. I know that is no way for him to live - and I'm at the point where I don't want to spend any more money to fix him up b/c the fix will only be temporary anyway. *SIGH* Take care everyone. Guest guest
My dog Bitsy had severe and sudden renal failure 9 years ago which caused her weight to drop quickly. At first she ate a ton and then stopped completely near the end. Our vet tried everything to save her but honestly, there was nothing they could do and she was just miserable at the end of her life. I made the 'appointment' with vet, but she died at home before I could get her there after work. I think you are doing the right thing. {{{Hugs}}} Kathy Sunday - I did a FIRM!!!To: exercisevideos@ yahoogroups. com, "fitnbusy moms" <fitnbusymoms@ yahoogroups. com>, FitFirmies@yahoogro ups.comDate: Sunday, June 7, 2009, 9:24 AM Hi, I did a FIRM today! Guest guest
Appointment made - 9:20 on Thursday. I am relatively at peace with it b/c I know I wouldn't want to live the way he is living right now. Still, it is hard. Guest guest
Donna I am so sorry about your cat. That is very hard. You are doing the right thing. We are going through something similar with our 13 year old G. Pyrenees. It just becomes about quality of life in the end for them. I am sure it will come down to making "the" appointment for her too fairly soon. Is there anyone who can go with you on Thurs. for emotional support? Guest guest
That is old for a newfie too. I love those dogs! They are wonderful family dogs, so laid back and cuddly. My mom had one that she had to put down about 4 years ago. I think she was 11 years old. A chocolate brown color, she was really sweet. What color was yours? I love the black and white ones, they are beautiful. Yes, the big ones do fall hard. Our dog is kind of how you described yours. She has her rug where she lays most of the time. She still likes to go out occasionally but in the last 6 months she has really faded. She seems peaceful most of the time, just laying around, but she does have a really hard time standing up. She still LOVES to eat :-) My wish is that she would just decide herself, in her sleep:-) Download the AOL Classifieds Toolbar for local deals at your fingertips. Guest guest
Thanks (and everyone else!) Wow, your GP lived a long life. It caught my eye b/c I had a Newfie and she made it to about 13, too. She was really in pretty good shape - able to take walks and stuff up until about age 11 - then she really started having a lot of trouble walking/standing. It got to the point where she was living on an area rug in our family room simply b/c she couldn't get up to go anywhere else, that is when I knew it was time. The big ones fall hard, dont' they?
