Guest guest
weight bearing excercise will help improve bone mass, so will Calcium Citrate. Not all calcuim supplements are the same, calcuim citrate absorbs better than calcium carbonate. If your dexa scan shows significant bone loss there are meds that you can take to rebuild your bone back, fosamax seems to be the best. your doctor will let you know whether or not your bone loss is serious enough to start fosamax. Some Rheumy's go ahead and put their patients on it who are taking prednisone for a long period of time, to prevent the bone loss that prednisone causes. Guest guest
I didn't mention K because of the number of people who have blood that clots too easily. K should be considered, but if you have problems with thick blood, or thrombins, use K only with your doctors monitoring. Mooney From: GetWell@... Guest guest
The obligatory first answer is exercise, calcium, vitamin D, and testosterone supplementation if needed. As for specific prescription drugs for bone density, your best bet is probably once-weekly Fosamax. Your doctor is right that most of the documentation is in post-menopausal women, however, there have been some positive studies involving HIV+ males. > My doc just got his own machine and he did a scan on my spine, hip, wrist and > elbow to wrist. > He was explaining to me ( I have avacular necrosis of the hips) that there > is much more documetation about it in post-menopausal women so he is going to > be looking at several areas to try and figure something out as to what could > work best at treating it. Guest guest
Greetings, Chuck! Suggest looking into changes in your diet.... this suggestion originated with my doctor. Thankfully, in my situation, the weekly Fosamax does enough. I can say without hesitation, if your cholesterol is high, grinding up flax seed and adding it to oatmeal or a smoothie works, in conjunction with Lipitor. Take care, Stuart getwell1 wrote: The obligatory first answer is exercise, calcium, vitamin D, and testosterone supplementation if needed.
