That's not hard to understand. Real civics and economics haven't been taught for over a generation. Most people have no clue how government really works, let alone how it is supposed to. My big worry now is that many people see the government as the big piggy bank that will save them from their own stupid mistakes. We bailed out the bad mortgage people, who were really only about 7% of all mortgages, and caused a run on the financial houses. Now we're bailing them out too and its only going to get worse once we start trying to nationalize health care.

If people understood civics, micro-economics and personal finance, none of which are at all hard, we won't be in anything like this current mess.

Yes, it is a rather ignorant way to decide who to vote for, but that is what they used to do - trust the media. The excuse they used at the time was that they didn't understand government or the issues facing the nation because all of that was "too complicated" and "too difficult" to understand.
