That's a good shot. I had several in my basement once after some contractors left the doors open one night. They too were smart and avoided the traps until I got everything edible away from them and they finally went for the food in the traps. I used the Havaheart cage traps got catch them and then I shot them. I've used to the bigger ones to catch raccoons and such, but I took them out to the country and let them go, which was dangerous in itself because they didn't appreciate the ride.

Rats are nasty things as are their little cousin mice. The rats left some really messy nests in the basement and track filth everywhere. The mice actually made nests all over the house including in disused kitchen cabinets. We've cleaned most of it up, but now and then I still find remnants. Really nasty stuff.

I shot and killed a rat with a pellet pistol. This was the first time Iever intentionally took the life of any living creature, the other was arabbit that ran out into the street and I couldn't avoid running itover. It's only a deal if it's where you want to go. Find your travel deal here.

I ran a few errands and cleaned up a bit around the house. Nothing special.

I shot and killed a rat with a pellet pistol. This was the first time I

ever intentionally took the life of any living creature, the other was a

rabbit that ran out into the street and I couldn't avoid running it

over.

This rat was really good at avoiding the traps laid for him and I just

detest the thought of him or her or a family taking up residence under

my front porch.

I went to Luray Caverns, I took lots & lots of pictures, I mowed the grass, I added to the compost pit, read, listened to music, re-watched "The Dark Crystal" DVD w/ special features, perfeted dinner recipes, corresponded with friends, spoke w/ my Aspie brother, Rob, an excellent percussionist BTW, over the phone, and discovered a great Mexican restaurant, Jalisco, which I'd rate 5ive stars my(s)elf, but my most excellent waitress, Amy, said she'd give 6ix stars if it were up to her ( :-)} Anyone else?Best wishes, always,AnadæFrom: environmental1st2003 <no_reply >Subject:

As much as I hate taking the life of animals other than for food, I

think you were right to kill the rat. They spread disease.

Good to know your target practice paid off.

I haven't been to Luray Caverns in ages. Did they still have the Stalactite Organ? Did they still point out the site where they long ago found the remains of a young Indian boy up on a rock shelf? I also liked the museums aboveground. When I was there, they had one of old fashioned cars that I really liked.

I agree. I don't hunt or shoot other animals, but rats and mice are nasty things that spread disease. There is nothing like opening your kitchen utensil drawer and finding fresh mouse droppings all over them, or finding where the little devils had chewed into food packets on the shelves.

The way you describe the area there, that sounds like a matter for animal control. If there are that many around a restaurant, that problem should be addressed by the authorities.

"discovered a great Mexican restaurant, Jalisco"There is a great Mexican Restaurant called Jalisco's in Milwaukee also :) Over Labor day I worked the entire weekend. I worked with both the young girl and young boy with autism. I worked on some gardening. I also worked on some paintings that I sold.~

Yup, they sure did, ! The Stalorgan they call it. Brilliant

contraption, that. It mechanically plays the church hymn, " A Mighty

Fortress Is Our God " , without any human accompaniment whatsoever.

That very melody wrapped up every episode of the Christian-themed

stop-motion animated series, " Davey & Goliath " , about a boy, his

family & friends, and his talking dog. Whoa, didn't I just take a

stroll down Memory Lane?! LOL!

I think that the remains were those of an Indian girl, though, since

the formation where her bones were found was christened the Princess

Stone. One of my favorite formations was the spectral Pluto's Ghost.

And yes, the Carriage & Automobile Museum there was also in full

force. There were, all told, far too many tourists over the Labor Day

weekend for me to fully enjoy the Luray Caverns complex. That means I

skipped the Garden Maze altogether. Perhaps I'll return there again

soon.

Thank you for your comments,
