Guest guest
Patty--Vitamin D is ESSENTIAL for protection against flu (and lots of other things, too). I give my daughter (2yo) 3-4,000 IU's a day. We use the Carlson's Baby D Drops. Four tiny drops in her bottle, once a day, and she's done. No pills to mess with. The amount the government gives for a daily does is WAY, WAY too small to do any good. Dr. Mercola has some excellent articles about this (and lots of other issues, like flu) on his website. I would check it out! Yesterday I started giving my other kids the drops. I take them too. Many people are vitamin D deficient. I know I am because I had my levels checked with Dr. Fuhrman (another fantastic source of health info--see his website!) last summer. FORGET what you heard about toxicity. There's nothing wrong with a dose anywhere from 3-6,000 IU's a day. If you spend a day at the beach, getting lots of sun, skip your dose that day. Marilyn Join ChristianMingle.com® FREE! Guest guest
On one of my lists, can't remember if it was this one or not, some were discussing Vitamin D drops. I'm wondering about the danger of toxicity in supplementing with Vitamin D. Everything I read says if you get adequate exposure to sunlight you should not be supplementing Vitamin D beyond a multivitamin. Does anyone have any information about this? Guest guest
Patty, I posted that I used D3 drops from Carlson. (Vitacost.com) They are liquid mixed only with coconut oil and are sub lingual under the tongue or on the skin. This cleared up my son's horrible psoriasis rash in one week. I don't believe we can get all we need from our sun and it depends where you live, what season and how much you are out. I feel they are safe especially in the sub lingual form. Plus vitamin D helps all your other vitamins to work better. > On one of my lists, can't remember if it was this one or not, some were > discussing Vitamin D drops. Guest guest
I suggest you have the vitamin D level checked. I found my son and I had low vitamin D and they are now saying most everyone needs more Vitamin D (maybe just here in Illinois) I am not sure but I would say check it and ask your doctor for the correct amount. Guest guest
We do lab work every 6 months. I think everyone should, regardless of supplements they use. This just gives you an idea of where they are and what you need to increase or decrease to keep them as healthy as possible. Jules Romero -- Re: [DownSyndromeInfoExchange] Re: Vitamin D Thanks Marsha. Another question, does everyone have their kiddos vitamin levels checked every six months or year? I've never had this done and am thinking maybe we should or do the ones who give NVD only do this? Oh and while I'm at it another question. I have been reading some things about fish oil. I'm actually trying to find the right dose for me because I have high cholesterol and it's genetic. But while I'm reading I find that some say higher EPA than DHA and then vice versa. For our kids it's supposed to be higher DHA right? At least that's what I thought and why I give the ProDHA. If that's true what is the reasoning behind higher DHA than EPA? Guest guest
And as far as absorption. If a child may not be absorbing vitamins or food vitamins well.> What should be your next step?? Have you looked into Leaky Gut Syndrome? Anyone with absorption issues, or multiple food sensitivities should check this out. Heal the gut and heal the other issues as well.
