Guest guest
Thank you Thea. I do have a question. I've been watching various youtube videos and it seems people have very different opinion on how to grow sunflower seeds. Some people say " you MUST have drainage holes. And then I see the glass pie plates (which obviously do NOT have drainage holes). But no matter which method one uses, they all seem to work. So I want to do an experiment. I want to see if I can sprout sunflower sprouts in my coir using my Sproutgarden. One round green tray (with the cover) I would take another tray and weigh it down and then put the green cover over it. What do you think? Guest guest
I'm all if favor of drain holes. That's why I promote the mushroom trays. ew Re: LA LA LA LA - Melody Thank you Thea. Guest guest
Good. That's what I'll do next. I'll be sprouting up a storm this spring. I'll have the brassicas, the bean sprouts and the sunflowers and the pea shoots. Sproutingly yours, Sunflower Mel > > I'm all if favor of drain holes. Guest guest
EW, I don't have mushroom trays, but I do have the plastic containers that the organic salad mix comes it. It has holes (although you probably would need to trim the lid down to fit inside and put a little weight on it at first). Would those work? Guest guest
I'm not Thea, but I say, give it a try! I bet it'll work fine. Just be sure that the weighted tray sits right down on the coir so the seeds get good contact. I find mine only take a day to become firmly rooted. Luck! Guest guest
Yes. I use all kinds of good plastic trays. When I go to a restaurant that serves salad in little plastic dishes, I always ask if they have a lid for it. I never cover the containers. i use the lids as saucers. Keep a spray bottle of water nearby and give the top of the soil a mist now and then to keep it from drying out and you're good to go. ew Re: LA LA LA LA - Melody > > Thank you Thea. > > I do have a question. Guest guest
I'm in favor of anything that isn't plastic. I grow wonderful microgreens in pie plates, pyrex rectangular storage containers, with soil, coir or on Mumm's Baby Blanket (which is fabulous). You just have to make sure not to overwater to the point of mold, but the sprouts will tell you when they need a drink by getting a bit limp. MM > I'm all if favor of drain holes. Guest guest
iS THAT after you sprout the seeds that you plant them in little containers of dirt? or do you go there directly with the seeds for planting. You don't put the sprouts that you are eating as sprouts in dirt do you?  Carolyn Wilkerson  ________________________________ To: sproutpeople Sent: Sunday, March 4, 2012 11:00 PM Subject: Re: LA LA LA LA - Melody  Yes.
