Guest guest
The flu vaccine does not cause the flu. Visit the www.cdc.org website for verification of that. It is not a live virus vaccine so that would be impossible. I am thankful we live in America where we have the option to get vaccines that 3rd world countries do not have the luxury of getting. I am extra thankful for the flu vaccine as my daughter with Down syndrome would be at increased risk for complications from flu including pneumonia. If there were a swine-flu vaccine, I would absolutely get it for myself and my family. 3 local schools closed due to swine flu and that was a little too close to home for me. The thought that my daughter with DS could catch the swine flu and possibly be at greater risk for complications from it made me wish there was a vaccine. In fact, one of the recent hospitalizations due to swine flu was a man with Down syndrome and a congenital heart defect. http://downsyndrome.about.com/b/2009/05/11/swine-flu-down-syndrome-and-heart-defects.htm I understand there is great controversy regarding the metals in vaccines which is why it is up to the individual to decide what is best for their child. I had my daughters MMR shot separated into 3 doses given one month apart each. One of the reasons Americans have such low mortality rates from these preventable viruses/diseases is because of vaccinations. People who do not get vaccinated in America reap the benefits of coexisting with people who will not expose them to the likes of the following: Anthrax Cervical Cancer Diphtheria Hepatitis A Hepatitis B Haemophilus influenzae type b (Hib) Human Papillomavirus (HPV) Influenza (Flu) Japanese Encephalitis (JE) Lyme Disease Measles Meningococcal Monkeypox Mumps Pertussis (Whooping Cough) Pneumococcal Poliomyelitis (Polio) Rabies Rotavirus Rubella (German Measles) Shingles (Herpes Zoster) Smallpox Tetanus (Lockjaw) Tuberculosis Typhoid Fever Varicella (Chickenpox) Yellow Fever
Guest guest
That the flu vaccine is inactive is not totally true. Some are, you have to request it. The nasal one for example is live. So ask.
