Guest guest
Jay, I am so happy for you about this new medicine helping you at last. I will keep your husband and family in my heart. Hugs; Ginger Jay wrote: WEll just an update on how Im doing, my level of pain has changed dramaticlly since starting this new medicine for fibro. I finally feel like I did a few years ago, I sleep better, I have more energy and best of all not much pain at all. Before my pain was getting so bad, if I went to the grocery store and walked around by the time I got home I was in agony but now no pain. The new med is cymbalta. It's an antidepressant one of the new ones, most docs treat fibro with antidepressants because they regulate the serotonin which affects your pain. This one is an SSRI and also a norephenephrin reuptake inhibator, this new combo works great with pain control. And an added benefit this has also helped with depression and my mood, Im so much happier. Kinda like the prozac happy LOL.. Anyway I wanted to share this with yall if you are having alot of pain talk to your rheumy about this med. Ive been taking it for almost a month, I noticed the pain decreasing after the second or third day and by the second week was feeling great. And Im not irritable either, it has helped with pms also, my mom said she hasnt seen me this happy in a long time, I had gotten so used to being crabby all the time, I wasn't enjoying life at all. I am over the flu thank goodness, that was a rough one. This is my husband's last week here, he leaves Sat.morning, we are going to celebrate Christmas early, my parents are coming tomorrow and they plan to stay here until January. Now that will be the real test on how well this med works, if I can make it 3 weeks with both my parents here and not lose my temper with my dad.....lol. My dad always does something that gets me irritable, usually he starts in whining about the dogs. We put our christmas tree up last weekend, we had decided earlier that we wouldnt put up the tree since my hubby wasnt going to be here, that was before I started the new med, I was so depressed the he wasn't going to be here so I didnt want a tree or to decorate, but once we got a few things down like the stockings we both got into the christmas spirit and decided to decorate everything. Now Im so glad we did. We still dont know what the army is going to do with us. We were supposed to stay in Savannah for 3 more years and my husband was supposed to come home for good in June, but of course that got cancelled and the latest news was that we may go to Texas. Another reason I was so depressed. My hubby is trying everything he can to keep us here but his unit in korea is being disbanded and the other chinook company is full so he has no where to go and he may have to go to texas in March. Now this morning they are saying maybe not Texas but Hawaii. Now I'll move to Hawaii!! If I have to move I would rather go to Hawaii than Texas. My sister in law is in Iraq, she is having a hard time there, she's never been in a combat area and she's not used to seeing so many injuries and some of the extent of the injuries. She's a dental hygenist but now not only is she trying to clean teeth but she's having to leave the baghdad airport where their camp is and go out into the city and being shot at daily, she has to wear armour and carry a gun and she's seeing people being blown up, it's really affecting her. Not to mention she misses her husband and son, she has a 6 year old. She will be there until Feburary. I worry about her safety, in fact she is in way more danger now than what my husband was in while over there. Im glad my husband isnt going back over there now. I know he will have to go back again but right now it's just so bad over there. I will be online more once my hubby leaves hopefully I can get the website updated I have some member histories I need to update. Guest guest
Liz, the new med is called Cymbalta. It is very similar to prozac. It is an SSRI selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor and a norepenephrine reuptake inhibitor, where prozac is just the serotonin inhibitor. they said this addtion of the norepenephrine ri is what makes it much better with pain control. it blocks the pain messages. I have take zoloft for years for the fibro and it worked also but I stopped the zoloft about 6 months ago to try wellbutrin, the wellbutrin made me crazy so i stopped it but didnt start the zoloft back then my pain got so much worse. it was definitly fibro pain. that Im having. with the exception of my right hip pain.
