Guest guest
Meredith- My son Sam did the same thing when he was little. He had the most talented feet! I suppose it's just natural for them to compensate any way they can. (I think it makes for great problem solving skills!) As Sam got older and started walking more, that has faded some and he may use his left hand as a helper more, but if he's sitting on the floor cutting paper, we'll still see him using that foot to hold the paper still. Best wishes- Christie, mom to Sam (11 years old)
Guest guest
No seems to have nothing at all to do with the meds I even bought from several different sources just in case. It is weird! Unless my body just feels good and I need the time to get in a little better shape before I can take MORE thyroid & I just haven;t hit the right dosage yet. I am beginning to think I may be one of those 8 grains a day people. I really pushed it this time with a full grain increase, but it is feeling fine and been 2 weeks now. Guest guest
What's weird is back on Synthroid, I started experimenting as my doc kept telling me I just wasn't at my correct dosage.. after 15 or so years of hearing this, I just started increasing & more increasing. I got to 500 MG a DAY Synthroid with still sleeping 12 hours and TSH of 3.0 but never did have the Free's run then like they should have been. I kept telling the doctors it was like taking a sugar pill. Then I took generic Levothyroxine (T4) made for animals for a while and got to a=n even higher dosage... want to get real scared? I was taking 2 800's a day! NOTHING. Then I went to a DR again, and back on Synthroid at 300 which was the highest he would give me. That was where I was when I started self medicating with Armour. I started my Armour at 2 grains a day. I have had a few light palps 1 or 2 times after taking T3 too much, but never from Armour alone. I think I still need even more, and the damage done by the insecticide poisoning is literally eating my T3 both as fast as I can make it and as fast as I eat it from other sources. I AM feeling 200% better than I did 4 years ago, but still not right. I hope I will know "right" when I get there! LOL It has been a long journey and I am hoping I CAN get to right still. *Artistic Grooming * Hurricane, WVFat cat? Diabetes? Guest guest
>>There is one lady in Australia who takes 12 grains of Armour<< OMG!!! Well at least I don't feel so weird anymore! LOL And no, I have not tries T2, but I have been thinking about it. I was even able to diet and lose a LITTLE weight this last time I "thought" I was at a good dose, but I have started to regain it. That is why I upped the dosage again. That and my hair is falling out again. I have often thought about collecting all the hair I lose when this happens and taking it to my Doctor! I have a ton of hair anyway, so a dump doesn;lt even show, thank God, but it looks like so much hair when it starts this. And at the same time I have all this 3" long stuff from new growth from the last increase! *Artistic Grooming * Hurricane, WVFat cat? Diabetes? Guest guest
Let me throw a theory out there. Just a theory. Do you think there's any possibility that you've been "building adrenal muscles" by doing this, very gradually? Going up, feeling good, then the cortisol is overtaken by the thyroid hormone, then backing off, building the adrenals, then overcome again, and so on? Can't remember, what did you say your most recent cortisol readings are, or have you had any recently? Even if it WAS high, with the amt of thyroid hormone you were/are taking (either past synthetic or current natural), you would make more cortisol surely, but it might be "covered" by all that thyroid hormone, yet the adrenals be incapcitated for awhile, between each and every change? If the cortisol can BE made, it's going to try to match the thyroid hormone and all other hormonal changes, right? Re: Question for all What's weird is back on Synthroid, I started experimenting as my doc kept telling me I just wasn't at my correct dosage.. after 15 or so years of hearing this, I just started increasing & more increasing. Guest guest
I had thought of that possibility. I have not had adrenal testing done.. I can;t even afford my own testing (but I got mny cat done... BAD Val) Anyway I tried taking hydrocortisone for a short 2 week period. I had horrible HYPO symptoms from it, so i stopped it real quick. I have been taking DHEA for about 4 years and I really think that has kept my adrenals in decent shape. Guest guest
This is just my opinion, but it sounds like your T4 dose is just a tiny bit low, so that over time, T4 slowly drops too low. It is a slow process where your body is using just the tiniest bit more than you are taking. So, over a long period it is slowly depleted. Then you can take a bunch of hormone because you need it to build your stores back up. The thing that happened to me on all T3 is that T4 became so low after a while that I would fizzle quickly if I did anything that was active enough to deplete the T3. Then I had no T4 to convert for energy. The body uses the T3 up first and then starts to convert the T4 to T3. So, if you use up the T3 and there is not enough T4, you will quickly loose energy. If you take most of your meds in the morning, then that would explain your fagging energy in the afternoon. If there is insufficient T4 to convert after T3 is used up, it is hard on the adrenals and forces them to put out a lot of adrenalin and cortisol in an attempt to get you more energy by increasing conversion of the scarce T4 resources and increasing energy in other ways. So maybe what you need is a tiny bit of T4. But, since it takes so long for you to deplete it, it seems it would be very difficult to get such a tiny extra dose. You could take a small amount of T4 once a week or something, since it is so inactive and would probably not bother you. They have found that in poor countries, hypos can take their T4 meds in big doses once every 2 weeks and do ok. Anyway, what it sounds like to me is that you need the most tiny amount extra of T4 and it's a balance problem. Since T4 can build up in the blood if it's not used and lead to a hyper crisis over time, it would be a challenge to get it right. But, you could figure out how much T4 you take when you have to up the dose every so often and divide that by the number of days it takes you to get to that point and kind of figure out how much extra T4 is needed. Guest guest
Tish if only it were that simple. I have taken extra T4 with the Armour. My free testing has always showed my T4 near the top of the range and the T3 has always been low. I do not convert at all, I don't believe. DId you read the part about taking 1600 MG T4 only meds and sleeping all day? That was during a time when I actually got fired from a job for being late. I overslept constantly. Fell asleep at work, fell asleep with clippers running in my hands clipping a dog! LOL I think I am close. Maybe a Ferritin test will turn up something. The low sodium I have had off and on for the past 3 years may be a clue to something, but what causes low sodium? Guest guest
Too bad. I guess your situation is quite different and interesting. I can't immagine what is happening. I have read some occasional things about thyroid hormone resistance and Armour, where some doctors prescribe Synthetic T3 and T4 instead, saying the patient has become resistant to Armour. I have mostly seen this in older papers and books. It seems hard to understand, but Synthroid and Cytomel do differ from regular thryoid hormone a little. It doesn't seem it is enough to make Synthroid and Cytomel work when Armour doesn't. Could it be you have a build up of antibodies against thyroid that waxes and wanes? Does the need to increase happen after an illness? That would raise antibody activity for a while. Tish

Guest guest
Low sodium is a red flag for adrenal issues. I know a lot of people talk about adrenal issues on other networks, but in your case I would bet on a dime that your cortisol levels are out-of-whack. When was the last time you did either a timed cortisol test or a saliva test? Adrenal issues will totally affect the way your body is absorbing thyroid meds. Best-- Courtenay.
