Guest guest
Dear Sharon....Oh, my goodness!!!!!! Poor little man. I wonder if his hard time early on in the trip is because he was "trying" to get sick....or were the hives something he got at the first ER? Oh, my, I'm so glad little Dan is OK!!!!!! You crack me up....don't like to be alone. I'm glad you're back safe and sound...but what an exhausting vacation! Keep us posted on Dan, and how he's doing. got his stitches out He screamed just like he did when he got them put in a week ago...poor little man, he fell walking out of a restaurant, and landed mouth first on the metal frame of the door He's fine now, and stitches are out, and I think his precious face is going to be just fine. Blessings to you! e To: AutismBehaviorProblems Sent: Tuesday, April 14, 2009 3:15:56 PMSubject: Back from Vacation Hey EverybodyWe are back from our 4 day vacation to Mamouth Cave, KY. To say the least it was an interesting trip.Dear Son acted like a 3 year old with Autism throwing fits at every restaurant and everytime we stopped - I wanted to throw him on top of the car and tie him down - sorry for those of you I just offended. He is 11 and knows better, but I think his hormones or mine just got in the way of each other. Husband threatened to turn the car around quite a few times and it's only an 9 hour drive. We've driven to Florida with less trouble.Got to the caves on Friday night, had dinner at the restaurant in the hotel - Dan chose fish sticks and proceeded to not eat them - he went to bed hungry that night. He basically likes Peanut Butter and was eating grilled cheese so we didn't bring the peanut butter. He refused to eat the grilled cheese too. Arrgh I was so angry.Went on a tour of a cave on Sat - he liked that a lot and wanted to do more but my knee was in no shape to do anything more so hubby took him for a hike. Which was cool, mom got to nap and rest in the hotel.Easter Sunday was a disaster - he acted up again in the restaurant even though he was eating what he wanted and he said they were good. Finally told hubby if he had it in him to take him on another tour - he said yes so they made reservations for 3:00. Until that time Danny was a beast - flying off the handle at any little thing, screaming in the hotel room, throwing things - you name it he did it. This is not his normal behavior for hotel rooms we have traveled with him enough he knows better - I could not wait for them to go on the tour. They came back from the tour hot, sweaty, dirty and saying that they had a blast - meanwhile I was quite bored at the hotel, kinda lonely - I don't like lonely. No internet either. We went to dinner at Pizza Hut - I know great Easter Dinner but he doesn't like any of the foods at the hotel so off we went. He did barely okay.Unfortunately the food he ate at the Pizza Hut did not agree with his tummy and starting at 3:30 am he was puking his guts out every 20 min until 6:30, when we finally got the car loaded to go to the hospital - we were suppose to drive home to Chicago on Monday and we were hoping they would give him a shot to stop the vomiting so we could get home. Well the closet ER was 20 min away in a small town, nice hospital but with only one doc in the ER, 2 people being admitted - doc does the admitting in this hospital, and 2 people ahead of us put us at seeing the doc in about 2 hours so we took a pass since he hadn't vomited in now about 1 1/2 hours so we paid about $100 for a puke bucket and off down the road we went.About and hour later Dan complained of itching - after about an hour of listening to him complain I looked at his arms and he had 3 bumps that were very itchy and driving him nuts. We said honey just do your best we will be home soon - still had 3 hours to go. Well it just got worse - finally stopped at a gas station took him into the ladies room lifted his shirt and got the surprise of my life - HIVES covering 50% of his body they were everywhere. We had nothing to give him to help him but we drove as fast as we could to the closest Urgent Care which was about 3 hours away he sat on his hands as best he could.By the time we got to the Urgent Care he was 100% covered they were everywhere - he could still breath which was good. The saw him right away gave him tons of Benadryl and a shot and sent him home with a note to return if he got worse - we gave him benadryl through the night and kept an eye on his breathing. We had already decided not to send him to school. When he awoke the hives had extended to his neck so instead of taking him to his pediatrician which I had planned to do off to the ER we went again. After 4 hours and seeing the same doctor that was at Urgent Care he got another shot and more medicine. He is finally looking better but I am not confident that we won't end up in Urgent Care again tonight. That's my story, I'm sticking to it - even though it is a novel. Guest guest
Sharon, what a remarkable family you are. I am so impressed with how you and your husband worked together on that trip. Bless your heart and bless Danny's heart. Hives are terrible; my husband has had them. I admire the both of you that you would even attempt such a trip. I know you don't feel this way now, but some day you'll look back on this and it will be part of your history and you will cherish it. In 's and my 60 years we have had vacations like that with our 4 NT (?) kids, and we love retelling the stories. My husband use to say "Vacations are like pinching yourself; it feels so good when you stop."
