Guest guest
Kirk, it's Gail again... I forgot to mention this earlier. Does your Hospital have a Patient Advocacy Program? Perhaps you should check on this and see if you can get someone at the hospital "on your side" as it were. Just a thought... Guest guest
Well, I think I may get some results with that letter. I was already contacted today by an administrator who told me that the Head of the ER was going to approach this Dr. regarding this matter and call me later on tonight. I have had it with being nice and polite, as it has done little for me. I am generally a very professional man in my words and actions, until I get hot. Now I am boiling, and I am not going to quit until I am satisfied. I was even threatened with "Security" last night as I had my "discussion"......I told them to make sure they send a real large man. I just don't care right now! What could he do to me? He certainly can not cause any more pain than I already had/have! I was unable to fall asleep last night until the 3:00 AM area. I can't sleep with a bad headache no matter how hard I try. I still have the damn thing, but it is a notch below where it was last night. I have to "get" as I am awaiting this phone call. I will let you know what transpires. Kirk My letter to the ER/Hospital I go to I am one mad man right now. I am submitting this to the group to see if there is anything else I might add in future email exchanges with this dump. My letter/email to them is as follows: Hello. My name is Kirk Bonanny. I have had a very rough year, going from a healthy, energetic man to a man with more than my share of health problems. I was hospitalized at General Hospital on three separate occasions (January to April) and have had numerous trips to the ER, which is where my complaints are directed at. I have been diagnosed with AOSD (Stills Disease). I also have been getting horrendous headaches that virtually incapacitate me. I had one of those today, along with pains in the area of my chest and shoulders that concerned me enough to make sure I mentioned them also. I was seen soon enough tonight, and I believe I was given an EKG, had some blood drawn and a CT scan. I was given Demerol (sp?) in my buttocks. A while later the ER Dr. I had (I do not know her name, and can't read it, either) came in to tell me, in a very unpleasant way, that all of the results look good, and that although I still have a headache, she was going to give me one more shot and than I had to go! Why did I come there in the first place??? What did I do to deserve this treatment????? I neither like nor appreciate being treated like I am someone in search of drugs. I was told by a nurse that a lot of people are, and I can believe it.....but look at my laundry list of records! I know they are available to the Dr and she can see I have a valid problem! I have had 3 MRI's, an MRA (or two), a few CT scans, x-rays, have been on (and still am on) too many headache prevention meds that obviously do not work. I see my Family Dr often (Dr. Stuka & Dr. Lehnert), I see my Rheumatologist (Dr. Kantor)as scheduled and I also see a pain management Dr (Dr. Kawenblum). I was seen by two Neurologists from your hospital. I have done everything asked of me by every Dr. I eat enough meds during the day to constitute a small meal. I can go on. I have had waits as long as 4 hours in your ER waiting room. I have had some mighty fine people deal with me, but I have also had some people who need a smack upside the head! It is disgusting to be treated like a piece of shit when you feel so horrible you think death is a nice option. I am incredibly livid right now. I still have one eye that is almost shut, and my headache isn't even a little bit better than it was before I went to your ER. I demand an answer. I demand better treatment. I demand people like this Dr be moved elsewhere or removed altogether. One thing that sets off a flare with Stills is stress....well she just gave me enough to last quite a while. I was told I should follow up with my PCP and that he could get me an answer, I told her I do and often.....I was then told to call my pain management Dr, I told her I was just there 11 days ago for Botox injections into my neck and head in an effort to try and control the pain from these very headaches...I was told I have to tell them to do something else...... LIKE WHAT????? I also have seen an Opthamologist (Sp?) as was suggested by my Pain Management Dr.Translation...go anywhere you want for treatment but here.....am I right?????What the hell am I supposed to do? My Family Dr tells me to go to the ER when the headaches get too bad.....as does my Pain Management Dr..........I go to the ER..... I do as I am told, and I get the unsaid but implied message "go away, we don't want you". I want an answer. I am sorry if this letter is too sharp, but it needs to be, I feel. I am so "hot" right now I am shaking, and my head is pounding. My eyes feel like they are being driven out of their sockets from behind. I am typing this and sending this now so that I don't have the chance to "tone it down" when I am able to think straight again. I thank you for your time, and expect some answers. Guest guest
You should be able to find out by just calling the hospital. I have had a few dealings with this myself, and it really helps, because an Advocate at the hosp. would be able to look up any charts, interview anyone you have come into contact there, and basically be you "voice" in this. Although most advocates work for the hospital itself, their job is to make sure that the patient is treated fairly during any treatment you recieve there. It's definitely worth looking into because, if it's done the right way, there would be a file on you with your complaints and what kind of action(s) were taken, if any. Actually, I have often thought about getting a job in that field myself. Maybe it's because I've been what my husband calls a "Professional Patient" most of my life and can certainly sympathize. Looks like you've gotten their attention... Good luck to you and please let us know how it turns out. I, along with many others, have experienced this lack of caring from healthcare professionals before. To me, they have no business being a doc or nurse with that attitude. I did manage to find the email address, and that apparently wound up in the right place. Having that conversation I just had a few minutes ago seems to have soothed my nerves a bit, although I am still wound. I am thinking that this letter from my PCP will take care of this problem as it stands now, but time will tell. How do I find out if they have a Patient Advocacy Program? Thanks, Kirk.
