Guest guest
If I can just get my wife on the program now! ew Re: Are there Artichoke Sprouts???? > > Melody > Artichoke is basically a weed in the thistle family. The only part of it that is edible is the globe, and then really a small part of that. > The artichoke plant has a lot of thorns and spines on it. Even though eating the sprouts would not be harmful, they might be scratchy. I have grown artichokes before, for my wife. I do not like them. It's too much work for such a little reward. I think my wife only eats them for the butter sauce. > I don't grow them any more because they attract aphids in to the heads, then the ants come to 'milk' the aphids. They are nearly impossible to clean before eating. > Commercially, they are sprayed very heavily to prevent the bugs. I am organic and do use poison sprays. > ew > > > > >
Guest guest
Isn't that how Velcro was discovered? Â Peggy To: sproutpeople Sent: Saturday, July 9, 2011 3:37 PM Subject: Re: Are there Artichoke Sprouts???? Â Burdock is another thistle in the same family as cardoon and artichoke. I've also heard that Italians call artichokes cardoonas. The burdock root (long and slender; called gobo) is used in Japanese cooking, but I heard that the young stems and the flower stalk can also be eaten. Burdock grows like a weed all over this country so I imagine a food forager would have no trouble finding it in the spring. When I would go on my nature hikes I remember spending twenty minutes finding and pulling off the burs that were stuck to my clothes, just brush against that mature plant and those seed pods would attach themselves very firmly. Lee > OOOHHH I have to ask a question. > > This Cardoon you are talking about. Is this the same thing that we Italians call " Gordoonas?? " I grew up with my family taking dipping this in egg, breadcrumbs and frying it. Then we could put it between two slices of italian break and we went to town. > > Now I can't tell you what the original looked like because I only saw it AFTER it was cooked. I went to work and I came home for supper. > > And when my parents moved to Florida and I went to visit, my Aunt Sally (who is still alive and 88), used to make the Caroonas and I remember saying " OMG, we're having Cardoonas? and I remember asking her once " what is the real name of this " ? > > And she said " I think it's Burdock " > > that I remember clearly, she called it Burdock " > > So is this what you are talking about. OMG, I remember LOVING this on a sandwich. > > Melody
Guest guest
Melody- Do you buy the SilverBiotics locally, or online? I have very very few health food/healthy nutritional stores near me. I have numerous health problems, including fibromyalgia, polycystic ovarian syndrome, fibroids, migraines, and bipolar disorder. I have NUMEROUS allergies too. I have lost 66 pounds in the past 15 months due to cutting back portion sizes and cutting back on some of the crappy food I eat. I can't use artificial sweetners at all (I react to them - migraines and/or allergic reactions) so I try to use pure cane sugar products/honey/or stevia instead of HFCS. I do have a very bad habit of Mountain Dew, but I try to limit myself to 20 ounces a day. It's really my worst vice since trying to eat healthier. But I love the True Lemon and True Lime! I need to go buy it again! Do they still make the True Orange? Holly Holly Canfield
Guest guest
Oh! True lemonades?!? I didn't know they made those! Will be hunting those down! I knew that the last time I had ordered the lemon and lime, they had orange, but still can't find it in the stores, so was afraid they quit making it. I'm glad they still make it! I'll check our local GNC for the SilverBiotics. If they don't have it, I'll just find it online. It's not below freezing, so I know I can get it. Guest guest
Thanks Melody! I shall be going and getting some tomorrow when I get the computer out. Too lazy right now. Lying in bed and watching TV in the a/c right now! Holly Holly Canfield
