Ginger, maybe it's no worse than you already feel and the bloodwork just shows it. Find a good book, play online free games, artwork or something to take your mind off the unknown for a couple of days and hope for the best. Best of luck, Melt

Dear Ginger,

I have blood abnomalities every two-three months after having my blood tests. Some of the tests are something to worry about, some are something to keep an eye on.

If the doctor was very concerned, he/she would have done what my RD did last March. He called and said to head for the nearest ER and asked again for my PCP's phone number to give information and instructions. I ended up in the hospital for 4-5 days, being force fed (I lost a lot of weight and am not that big anyway), being on fluid restrictions, and received 2 units of blood. I wrote about this recently.

Don't worry about it too much. My white and red counts run low enough most doctors (that don't know my illness) would freak out. My white count was 1.8 pre-hosp. Normal is around 5,000-10,000, so 1,800 was a bit low.

I drink a heck of a lot of water. I always understood people drank too little, needed more, and thought it would help my meds through my system, too. Was I every wrong. One problem was I was drinking far too much water. Don't be cautious with water unless your doctor tells you to be cautious. It just happens to be my drink of choice. Now I have to drink more juice.

Let us know what your MD says.

Love,

Barbara

Hi Barbara,

Well, here I go again. Oh I too drink nothing but water but you know what I don't think my doctor knows that and I didn't tell him.

Ok my white count is too low and my red count is too high. I have to go see an oncologist blood doctor and he said something about maybe doing a bone marrow test.

My what ever's were far too high which may indicate a heart problem and he put me on folic acid. Three times a day. He doesn't want to start any shots until I get all this taken care of and see what the Oncologist says first. He said he would be very worried to put me on Emril(sp) right now with the way my blood is. I have a lot more high's and lows in all areas. Then he wants me to go and have a TB skin test as I was around someone who had TB a long time ago, and a chest x-ray and an MRI. So there is every thing. Talk about feeling very depressed today.

why would they do this? Is it something to do with the Stills? I don't understand. Did you need to see a cancer blood doctor first?

I knew it had to be more they find out with me and that's what sinks me into depression. I don't have time for a pity party with kids but I can bet being all alone I will cry my eyes out tonight.

I only wish I still had my Mother and Father. But being out here alone in the world, I feel so lost. I am so thankful for this group. With out you all I don't know what I would do.

Just what I need more back pain. I just got off the pain pills for my spine, lol and I don't like taking pain pills with having children. It's so hard to get up and do things and talk to them and play with them while I feel so tired.

I had the same counts prior to my diagnosis. I didn't mind the bone marrow test at all. I went from one hospital to another in an ambulance. In fact, the only thing I remember was being amazed at how long it took for the "cut" to heal. I hate MRI's and any test where you drink stuff that isn't food (you know that awful stuff so they can take tests). I will never forget how they made me drink that junk, and kept me in line at the test for hours in a wheel chair when I could barely hold my head up - my original flare. By the time it was my turn, I needed to drink it again as it had been too long since my first cocktail! Grrrr. I hated that, plus no one had ever warned me that when it came out <sorry><> it would be wierd colors, scared me to death!

Yes I need an MRI too but he said I need it because he wants to start Embril(sp) and wants to make sure there is no TB. I also need a TB test and an x-ray before he can even start it.

But first he gave me Folic Acid to take three times a day and then to go see an Oncologist. I sure hope they put me out some when they do that test! LOL

He said I wasn't making any bone marrow at all! Is this common for Stills? I also have no Iron cells. a big Zero! Is this normal?

Thank you so much for helping me in this. I just hate going to have to do all these things.

Hi C 2 I am going to have to remember this. LOL

No I have no one. I have a sister who lives out here too but never hear from her or see her.

I have called her a few times but I guess I am the sick one and she stays away.

Thank you and all of you for this wonderful group. I just don't know how I would deal with all this going on.

Thank you. Yes I was just wondering if these problems are due to the stills. I asked this doctor why I shiver then sweat so bad he didn't know and then I seem to have a lot of red marks on my skin. I barley have to touch something and there they are. So I showed him and asked why this is happening and he said there was nothing indecated by the blood work to cause this. But no answer.

Oh well it all seems like it will never end just get worst as I get older.

eThey don't put people out for the bone marrow test because doctors say its too short a test and general anesthesia is too high risk for such a short time. They do give something to relax, and for pain at times, but it is one mean test. That comes from one who hasn't had a bone marrow test. But, if it appeared medically necessary, I'd do it. I'd also give the doctor and anesthesiologist hell about giving adequate pain relief as in "I don't want to remember this test." Not just doctors or nurses, but ex-nurses make bad patients, too.

I wrote to you, Ginger, but submit to the test if necessary. Just tell them you are extremely anxious about the test. They'll make you comfortable. The test is a very good diagnostic test.

Take care,

Barbara

That bone-marrow test is a real killer Ginger ouch,i dont know if they ever put people out for this test but it is awful painful. For me they just froze the outside :) i could hear him hammer, although i do remember him saying i had strong bones. Not meaning to scare you, good thing is pain only lasted for a short while. With all these tests though, hopfully they will figure somethin out & correct the problem, take care. d.Canada

Well seeing as how I have been to three arthritis doctors and this is my new fourth, I was never asked to have a bone marrow test before why now?

Oh don't worry I will tell them. LOL I hate pain as if I don't have enough that they think I want more!!! LOL

Oh wow is there anything I can do about the mail? Is it on my end? I know yahoo does strange things. LOL

I am trying to stay calm. LOL I get worried but then I think, what else can I get now. Now way is this going to amount to anything. LOL Then I'm ok for a while. Then I start thinking of things like where would my children go if something should happen to me, and well then my mind just goes on and on. So now I am just going to play the waiting game which I know very well.

Yes I need an MRI too but he said I need it because he wants to start Embril(sp) and wants to make sure there is no TB. I also need a TB test and an x-ray before he can even start it.

Ginger,

Make sure it is okay for you to get a TB test. I was always told not to get one, due to being immunosuppressed. A chest x-ray can take the place of a skin test, when necessary. Ask your doctor. I could be wrong.

Peace,

Barbara

No you are right because I always showed positive when I was in Children's Hospital in LA. The doctor there had every one in my house go for testing too, but found out that I should not have the TB skin test and only a chest x-ray after spending a week in the hospital. But this doctor I have now seems to think I should have one, so I guess I will have to and just see what happens. He does also want a chest x-ray too. So maybe this will teach him that when my test comes back positive and my x-ray shows nothing that the skin test wasn't needed. I HOPE!!! Who could I call and ask?

Had a trying morning! Went to get gas and fill the tires of my car, then took a trip into Thousand Oaks. Then went and took my kids to lunch. Well after getting lunch my gas tank blew! We are ok and had the car towed. We were very lucky.

Ginger, You could try talking to another doctor, call the ER, or even talk to the County Health Department. Actually, that last choice may be the best. Live virus should never be given to a high risk or immunosuppressed patient.

I'm sorry you had such a rough day! I'm glad everything turned out okay, but sorry about your car, but glad you and your kids are okay. Having AAA is good protection. Take care and let me know about the TB test.

Barbara

Dear Barbara,

Yes I will call the County Health Department. I think that sounds good as we don't have too many doctors out here! I get so confused since one doctor will say it's ok and another will say it;s not.

Oh me too! I feel so lucky to be alive! I was told that the top of the gas tank went! It was gushing gas all over according to the AAA driver. The guys at the Ford place fixed it that night and didn't close until it was done. I guess that's because it was a real hazard.

Not looking forward to the TB test as the last time they ran my parents and sister to be checked out. LOL I was so afraid! But, I guess it's something he needs before he will start the Embril(sp).
