Just wanted to chime in to say you're so right, ew! Mushrooms have

significant health benefits, not the least of which is cancer-fighting

attributes. Even if someone doesn't like them, they may find a way to

disguise them in soups, spaghetti sauces, etc., and still reap the benefits!

In agreement (or as one of our former hapless Presidents said - agreeance,

LOL)

Mel,

Do a search and you will find just how good mushrooms are for you.

The container does not become part of your pie plate set up. You use the

mushroom trays instead of the pie plates.

I have two in my kitchen window just now and another two on the kitchen

counter, with sunflower and pea shoots in different stages of growth.

Thea, my husband wouldn't touch a mushroom in any form except liquified in a

Vitamixed smoothie. He has learned of the health benefits of mushrooms, and

that's the only way he will ingest them. I, on the other hand, love fresh raw

mushrooms in a salad. I missed the discussion  on growing them - will have to

backtrack so I can determine how I can do that!

My husband wasn't keen on them either but eats them now in various dishes where

their mushroom-ness (new word, LOL) is less apparent. He is aware of the health

benefits too and that helps his decision to eat them. I don't mind them raw but

definitely like them in a crockpot dish of some sort or cooked in another way.

Years ago I had a recipe for mushrooms filled with white wine & butter, baked,

and served on the requisite toast point. The recipe came from a book called

" With a Jug of Wine " , and I wish I had it. It belonged to my neighbor and we've

lost touch. I'm not positive about the recipe, but it was really, really good.

They certainly could be done on the barbie!

Maybe  you can find something similar on Food Network or in Cooks.com or

something like that.  Put in mushrooms and wine and see what comes up.
