Guest guest
- I didn't like Ab Ripper X much either. I eventually gave it up for my own routine. It wasn't really challenging to me and it bothered my hip flexors a lot. I am glad to hear someone else say that it wasn't their favorite:-)
Guest guest
Where have I been? I didn't realize, Mz. P90 Grad, that you were going to do start doing P90X workouts. Yay! I like Kenpo X and am happy you did too. I've never done the Plyo X, so I look forward to hearing how it works (or doesn't work) for you! The Yoga X one is very good, but I warn you, it is HARD. I like Ab Ripper 200 better than Ab Ripper X.
Guest guest
Nice workout! Thanks for the description. I've been wondering what these would be like. Today I did my first P90X workout! My goal, by the way, is to do all of the P90X workouts at least once by mid-September. I just want to try them all but not do the program now so I'm doing them in whatever order I want. Today is a cardio day and I went with Kenpo X because it had less dread than Plyometrics and sounded like it would be more challenging than Cardio X. I was pleasantly surprised to find it a lot easier than I was expecting it would be but still a very good workout. I can't ever remember the flow of a workout the first time through so I'll just say what I liked and didn't for the most part. I found the pace just right most of the time. With many of the drills Tony starts slowly and then builds up the speed. That made it easy for me to work on my form with the first few reps and then really push it as I got comfortable. I'm not sure I'd like the starting slowly after doing this workout a few times though. I thought some of the drills were a little boring but as he created simple combinations I liked it better. I loved the rep counter too! One thing I found interesting was that I was much more able to keep the combinations straight and perform them with good intensity on my right side. My left side was amazingly uncoordinated! Since Tony does not mirror cue (a major gripe for me), that meant I was always starting on my left. I think if I'd have started on my right, I might have had a better chance of doing well on the left so I'll probably do that next time and will keep it in mind for future workouts. In some of the kicking combinations, I was able to add some power to the moves by doing more of a bounce than a shuffle back and forth between positions (it is easier to bounce than shuffle on carpeting too I noticed) and that increased the intensity. I also was able, in one of the last combinations, to stay on one leg a lot of the time and that added a good balance challenge. I was following the woman () a lot but just started doing that on my own, then saw Tony 2 doing it and said, " wow, good for me! " One thing that was new for me was blocking and while I liked those drills, I did find my heart rate went way down. It was in my zone or above it through most other parts but even in a pretty deep horse stance and bringing it as best I could with something new I just didn't get it up there or keep it there when I did. At the end of them Tony was commenting that his was up but mine wasn't so I'm thinking I was concentrating a lot on form possibly and not working it as hard as I could have. I really liked the jogging/jumping jacks, plyo jacks " rest period " between segments. The jumping jacks and plyo jacks (also new to me) really got my heart rate up. At the end of the 2nd segment he said if your heart rate is really high, pause the DVD so that's what I did for the rest of the segments because I was up in the high 160s and my range is 133-150. I was also sucking major wind and needed to be able to breath again! I didn't do the plyo jacks at the end of the last " break " because I wanted to see how I'd be finishing the jacks and going right into the next segment. I was fine but actually missed doing the plyos so next time I'd do them and then pause! Another thing I liked was when Tony would say things like " pull this guy down, then kick that guy. " Comments liked those helped me see these as fighting moves and not just " exercises. " That helped me focus more and put more into what I was doing. I could see easily going through this workout without thinking too much, since it is just repetitive drills, but by focusing more on " why " I was doing a particular move (hypothetical why obviously, I wasn't kicking anyone) I was able to put myself into it more and got more out of it than when I was zoning out just doing the moves over and over. When I caught myself zoning, I tried to remember what I was doing and then got more energetic again. I love drills but I do get complacent doing them sometimes. I thought the set was pretty cool (so much better than P90) and the cast in this video were all really great. The music was way better than P90 too! Tony seemed subdued, compared to the really silly (okay, stupid but he still makes me laugh) comments he makes throughout P90 and the PHH videos. I think I liked him better in this because of that. He's still fun and goofy but not obnoxiously so. We'll see what he's like in the others I guess. This was a good way to get myself into the P90X videos. Not too hard, not too easy either. I have a feeling Plyometrics is going to be another story... and Chest & Back too... I'm going to watch Plyo X before I do it. I hadn't watched this one first (I've only watched Chest & Back so far). I burned 325 calories and was in my zone for about 23 minutes today. That could go higher if I work to stay in my zone more and do something with the blocking segments to get it up there too. I'm looking forward to doing more of these but tomorrow will probably be a FUNctional fitness day. I promised the kids I'd take them rollerskating and since the day is super packed before and after that, rollerskating will be my workout tomorrow. I have Plyo X scheduled for Wednesday though... Guest guest
I am borrowing the set of discs from our wonderful a! I've had them for a while now and FINALLY am digging in so that's why you probably haven't heard much yet. I'm just trying out the workouts though, not doing the program. I'll let you know about Plyo X soon, hopefully Wednesday. Assuming I live to tell about it, that is! (It looks GREAT, just REALLY intense!) I'll have to watch Yoga X before I do it, I've read that it was very challenging. That is interesting that you like Ab Ripper 200 more than the Ab X program! I'll look forward to trying that one and seeing the differences! I'm hoping to get some of the strength workouts in next week too. Re: Kenpo X Where have I been? I didn't realize, Mz. Guest guest
Good job, !! I have to admit, when I previwed this one, it looked like this to me: kick-kick-kick punch-punch-punch LOL! Though I mostly skimmed it, and certainly used the " cues only " option, heh. Sounds like it went well, though! I look forward to hearing about the weights workouts, since those are the ones I plan to actually *use* sometime, LOL. Are you doing a mini P90x week this week? Oh, and I don't know if Bear has RA or just arthritis. You're right - I imagine you will be on a different regime than, you know, my dog. LMAO. Goofball, Sara > > Today I did my first P90X workout! Guest guest
Yeah , Glad you had a good workout! I have to really concentrate on sinking low in to horse stance during the blocks. I actually did this one the other day because we have a set in our work gym. Kenpo X is my favorite. ;-) a
Guest guest
Thanks a! I had to keep reminding myself to get low in horse stance but I loved doing it. Six months ago I could have never gotten through those because my quads would have been on fire and yesterday it actually felt fine!! Today, my quads are still fine but my arms are so sore!! I haven't gotten sore like this from too many cardio workouts. It was a very fun workout! Re: Kenpo X Yeah , Glad you had a good workout!
