I brought it up and Erk did not take his notebook to school today and I sat right across from Miss Jenna and brought out the notebook and wanted to see her squirm. Guest guest Posted April 23, 2009 Report Share Posted April 23, 2009 Hi Frazz....YES it IS a big deal! As a mom of a boy(18) with no speech that would mean the WORLD to me!!! Very FEW people try to interact with him because he can't talk...they talk to me, and I tell them they can talk to him...just bc he can't talk does not mean he does not enjoy people talking to him. It has broke my heart so many times through the years to see kids try to ionteract with him and then they walk away bc he cannot talk back to them. Speech is SUCH an important aspect of LIFE. How do you make any friends without speech...you don't. I tell people to try to go one day...one HOUR without being able to communicate(my son cannot print letters either, or keyboard) and then imagine what it would be like for 15 YEARS...not fun.
