My first story is: My non-diabetic wife who weights over 200 pounds is really,

really mad at me for spending the money. I cannot get her to sit and watch the

toutorials with me. She wants nothing to do with it. However, as I start loosing

weight, I hope she start paying attention. its only been the last couple of

years that I've gotten her to eat sprouts. She likes the sunnies in the window

sill. They're handy for her. She doesn't have to reach in the fridge and open a

container.

I just made the most DIVINE sorbet I have ever tasted. All I did was take a

little container of frozen blueberries (I had put them in my freezer yesterday).

A handful of FRESH strawberries, a quarter cup of fat free yogurt and some

liquid stevia (this is a learn as you go experiment). I initially made this for

Alan.

Well!! I tasted it. I said OH MY GOD.

I am now sitting in front of the computer with my lovely concoction.

Wait until your wife starts tasting these things.

Amazing!!

and you can add a date or two and drop the stevia...or add some apple

juice..I like mango and pineapple a date and some apple

juice...oranges and strawberries or blackberries are a great

combination too,.I freeze everything and have it ready to make a

sorbet or to throw in the smoothies. Whe I use blackberries I add

another date for sweetness

I take it you don't like Stevia??

Any particular reason? I stopped all artificial sweetners some time ago and if

I want something in my coffee or in a vitamix concoction I use Stevia. I use the

Nu Naturals Liquid Stevia. My god, that little bottle lasts for months. I must

have it 6 months now. I just add 6 drops or so to the vitamix concoction. It's

really good.

Ernest,

Does your wife have any health conditions that you think she should

eliminate? Remember your thoughts don't necessarily align with hers. Also,

the following is a story I read many years ago

A backpacker was walking down the street in Thailand when he encountered an

old man sitting on his porch and a dog lying on the porch whining and

groaning.

He asked the old man why the dog was acting that way . . .

" Because he's lying on a nail " the old man replied.

" Why doesn't he get up? " the man asked.

" Because he's not hurting bad enough " the old man replied. . .

So what we all need to realize is that the loved ones that we want to help

either just don't hurt enough OR they believe that the solution is beyond

what they can deal with.

If she'll use some of the things you make then that's terrific. I wish you

success. If not and she just doesn't want to hear it from you, remember

you're too close - see if she's open to working with someone else that can

guide her. For years my husband would say things to me and until I was

ready to hear them I didn't.

There's lots of people out there, I do this for clients but that's not why

I'm posting - it just may not be the right time for her to make a change.

I'm in the process of rebranding my business so if anyone wants to " like " my

Melody,

Stevia is a great alternative - adding dates is great, however for people

that have diabetics in the house, be careful because they are very high in

sugars

Hi.

I'm the ONLY diabetic in this house. But we both use Stevia.

I think we are better for it. No more splenda. Haven't used any nutrasweet for

YEARS. Can't remember the last time I drank any kind of diet soda.

I use only True Lemon products and their True Lemon Raspberry lemonade is the

BEST. And they are developing a True Pineapple. My husband will be in pineapple

heaven when this comes out. lol

I'm telling you, once she tastes this concoction, there's no going back. I had

never done this before (even before I got a Vitamix). Never had a sorbet of

frozen blueberries and other things before (and never one that I made fresh,

that's for sure).

When I tasted this, the freshness, the COLDNESS, well I said " okay, this is for

ME.

You MUST tell us her reaction (and your's too) once you make this for her.

I am a " the sweeter the better " fan. But today I am going to go out

and get your brand of stevia and give it a whirl. I've used stevia

before and used to carry it in my purse to use when eating

out....I've just gotten away from it

Hi.

Okay, I'll continue to try and educate in a non judgemental and non-threatening

way. But if one person looks at me like I'm bonkers and says (like a diabetic

300 plus friend of mine once said)

" Melody you don't really know that if I eat the way you do, that my diabetes

will be better controlled " .

I just said " you're right, there are no guarantees in life, but we have to at

least TRY " .

Now that shut her up!!

lol

Hi Melody,

I have a vitamix with the variable speed --- I start on regular speed, turn up

the variable on high, then switch on the " high " speed for a couple of minutes -

just like making a smoothie. done.

You don't need a vitamix, any blender will do, but a vitamix really does break

down the almonds wonderfully so the remaining pulp is very fine.

I don't throw the pulp away, I either turn it into cookies or dry it in the

dehydrator and make almond flour out of it for later use.

Note: Almond milk will separate in the fridge -- simply shake it up and it is

fine. I keep mine for up to 3 days ... but usually don't make more than 6 cups

at a time so it gets used up pretty fast.

My husband has a night time favorite drink: 6-8 oz of almond milk, two frozen

bananas in small chunks, a heaping tablespoon of raw cacao (the Real chocolate)

.... blend in a vitamix ... it comes out really thick, chocolaty and sweet. yum.

Anyway --- we do use up the almond milk. This is pretty darn good with cashews

too.

Terry.

your husband's nighttime recipe. How long in the Vitamix and do you use the

Tamper or do you just put in the almond milk frozen bananas and (what speed??)

and leave it to mix by itself????

See, I have MUCH to learn!!

Wow! Spicy usually does not bother me. However, I am learning more and more

that some foods, usually with preservatives etc. make my symptoms worse. I

really need to get back to sprouting and juicing.

Melody,

I start it on low, letting the cocao get mixed into the milk and the bananas

move around a bit and start to break up, then gradually move it up to high, just

like a smoothie. Using the damper depends on the bananas - but I'd say I do use

it frequently. It also depends on how much milk I actually put into the drink,

how well I break up the bananas, etc.

You blend it until the bananas are fully incorporated (broken down). You can

tell by the way it moves in the container and it sounds. Only a minute or so

I'd say ... I've never actually timed it. The longer you blend it, the thinner

it will get because the bananas 'unfreeze', so you want to pay attention and

stop blending as soon as possible. It only takes a couple of times before you

get it mastered.

I freeze two bananas in each baggie (peeled of course and broken into small

chunks). Some packages of bananas are bigger than others, so the mixture is

thicker. Sometimes the finished " drink " is pourable and really thick, sometimes

I have to almost spoon it out of the vitamix. either way, it is really

delicious.

One of these days I'm going to try it with raw carob --- would be a different

taste and probably really good too.

HI Terry:

I did your recipe last night. I made my husband a chocolate banana shake using

the same ingredients. He was exclaiming " oh my god, oh my god, this is so good,

I want this from now on " .

Tonight, I tried to duplicate it. I added more ice. I really wanted to make a

shake. I ended up with a chocolate mousse. I added more ice, I blended it more,

(I should have done it longer, I realize this now) but I spooned the mixture

into two bowls and we each had one.

You should have seen my husband as he tasted it. He exclaimed " Oh my god, I

thought you could never beat last night's shake, oh my god, this is it for me "

No matter what I make for this man, HE'S HAPPY!!!

He's in Vitamix heaven!!!

lol

Thanks much

everyone always wants more. Isn't it fun what wonderful things you can do with

a vitamix?!! I use it to make lots of yummy raw stuff.
