I was just on my way to the store when I read this message. I looked at the

label on Gatorade. First ingredient is water, the second is sugar. How can that

be good for anybody?

#

Started over 5 days ago. 102 in the evening. Did the tylenol, (no other

symptoms whatsoever). No cough, sore throat, aches, a little headache, but

NOTHING ELSE. He was exhausted. He slept, the next morning it went down. Because

he had no other symptoms and he hasn't had any other illnesses (except for

cellulitis infection of a foot ulcer which they treat with anti-biotics, and

that was over 2 months ago), he's always fine. Except for his neuropathy I mean.

But he never gets SICK.

So naturally he wont' go to the doctor. The fever broke, and he felt better.

But it was like he was hit with a truck. Very weak. He is not a drinker!!!

Doesn't like water. I took him off of all diet soda with splenda, and gave him

my true lemon products ordering him to DRINK because you have to have fluids

with a fever. Not much of an appetite 4 days ago. So bit by bit, the fever comes

down but he's still sleeping all the time. I phone his doctor (can you believe

he answers his cell phone on July 4th)? I tell him his symptoms and he said

" From what you are telling me, it's viral, but you can bring him in tomorrow'.

I say " He WON'T come in, he is too tired " . The doctor said " You are giving him

Gatorade right?' I said " Oh, no, I didn't think of that "

He said to call him the next day.

I immediately went out and bought 2 bottles of gatorade. Brought them home and

he practically inhaled the first bottle. They are both now gone. I phoned the

doctor the next day (which was yesterday) and told him " should I switch from

tylenlol to ibuprofen " ? He said " yeah, do that " .

So yesterday his fever was normal (his doctor said if he had a bacterial

infection anywhere in his body, his fever would spike, stay up, and not go down

unless he had an antibiotic and that's why he really thinks it's viral).

So last night he was hungry. I made him a sandwich and a knish, and another

glass of gatorade. He's been drinking this stuff for two days now. It's like his

body NEEDS whatever is in the gatorade.

He was on the computer last night. I took his temperature. it was 98. I said

" hurray, maybe this thing has passed "

He did not want to take any ibuprofen last night before bed time because he had

no fever. And he was able to get up without being dizzy (like when the fever is

101.

Well, I get up this morning, go into the living room, he's on the couch doing

his leg exercises, I feel his forehead (his eyes are clear by the way), and I

said 'you feel warm, and his temp was 101.

I immediately gave him 2 ibuprofen. HE WON'T GO TO THE DOCTOR, JUST KNOW

THAT!!! He says " I have a virus, I have to sweat it out " . He's been sweating on

and off for a few days, one day he sweat through his shirt and of course I

cleaned him up.

I went out for a bit, just came home, and he asks " Can I have a scrambled egg

on a bagel " .

He just gobbled it down. He's laying down, he's watching tv and because this

man hasn't gotten sick like this in over 25 years, I am at a loss at to what to

do. I went out and got him Walgreens nutritional drink with protein because he

is not eating three meals a day i also got him gatorade i " m having trouble with

my keyboard right now so i can " t use certain keys sorry

oh i have to give you his background as to what he contracted twenty nine years

ago he got a fever lasting a long time no other symptoms like what is happening

now they put him in the hospital in isolation because they didnt know what it

was sorry can " t use punctuation right now

they finally released him indicating on his chart it was fever of unknown

origin it took about two months for him to get better never had a sore throat

ear ache no other symptoms they never gave him antibiotics then either

so i am thinking to myself what if something triggered that virus in his system

and thats what he now has

the night before he got sick we got news about our son that would devastate any

family i think this is what triggered something in his body i may be wrong i

have no clue

but is this possible? and have any of you known someone to have a condition (a

virus??) that you get a normal temp in the daytime you sweat it out you take

iburprofen or some other med and it brings it right down you get your appetite

back and then you wake up and its one hundred and one???

his color is good nothing hurts him no other symptoms whatsoever HE WON " T GO TO

THE DOCTOR UNLESS HE " S DYING STUBBORN

so any comments are (believe me) welcome

giving him LOTS of fluids> his urine is dark and when i told the doctor that

that is when he said " you are giving him gatorade right? "

it seems he is drinking gatorade and his body is inhaling it

so any input is very welcome

this is harder on me than it is on him. I'm the one running around like a

chicken.

I told him " if you are not better by friday, I'm dragging you to the doctor "

Not that the doctor could do anything if it's a virus but he can eliminate stuff

right?

Oh this man is so stubborn.

I agree. I think it replaces the lost electrolytes. And believe me, he needs

electrolytes.

Anyway, tomorrow we are off to his doctor at 3 p.m.

He has no more fever but that could return. Who knows. I'm just thrilled that

it's been normal since this morning.

And he's drinking WATER. Right now!!!

And someone told me to take are of myself.

Let me assure all of you. NOBODY TAKES BETTER CARE OF ME THAN ME!!

lol

You can buy energy drinks that repace eletrolytes with out the added sugar. I am

100% against white refined sugar. Sugar is killing Americans.

Not disagreeing with you, EW just sayin' that docs are definitely not up

on the actual nutrition of various products. Carnation Instant Breakfast

has enough sugar to sink a horse, but some docs will " suggest " it as a

protein supplement. Most docs think of Gatorade (I believe) from the

sports arena, where baseball and football players are given it to replace

electrolytes lost on a warm day with lots of exercise. Yep, it works, and

until there's some freaking double blind, gold standard study saying sugar

isn't good for us (with the exception of diabetes), (and the FDA and

industry are not going to allow THAT study to happen, LOL), docs will

continue to recommend Gatorade. Meanwhile, there are recipes on the net

for " pedialyte " substitutes that would probably work just as well, but given

the number of households that " don't want to mess their kitchen " (as Melody

says) - people will tend to do the easiest thing buy gatorade.

To prepare for a colonoscopy last year I had to drink nearly a gallon of

Gatorade mixed with medicine.

Fortunately, I only have to do this every 4 years (hx of colon cancer in

family), because it will take another 4 years for me to bear to look at the

stuff again.

I am extremely fond of coconut juice- right out of the baby coconut is best

(electrolytes!), otherwise the Amy and brand, no sugar added is good. They

use thai coconuts which are naturally sweet. The brazil coconut juice is a bit

sour I think.

If you buy coconut juice, make sure it does not have added sugar. It is

completely unnecessary.

As EW and Pam and others have stated, refined sugar (corn syrup, etc) are the

bane of the typical American diet. But not likely to change anytime soon :(

:) n

Just polished off a can of coconut juice and preparing her sprout sandwich lunch

(Russian mix)

Well, I have no more gatorade in the house. He's drinking my true lemon drinks.

He's not peeing that much and I think he has some infection in his kidneys or

something. I'm sure they'll do a urine test at the office.

Poor guy. He has neuropathy, he has a very bad back, hence he uses a walker, and

now he's hit with this. Hey, at least I got some sprouts into him. lol

Will update when we come back from the doctor.

Oh, take a look at this youtube video on the BADNESS of fructose. Holy Cow

Hi Melody,

Sorry is not doing well. Not sure if anyone has mentioned, but Pedialyte

makes a unflavored, no sugar, no artificial sweetener version that I use for my

cats when they are sick. Easy to find at any drugstore. If you don't want to

give Gatorade.

Hi.

Is your pedialyte cheaper than the $3.79 I paid for 32 oz of coconut water? I'm

checking it out

Melody

P.S. Thanks much

Hi Melody,

I think pedialyte is more expensive. The good thing about pedialyte is it's

easily found. Coconut water is a good idea, I always forget about it. It's

also good for cooling the body if a person's " constitution " is too warm/hot.

Feeding him cooling fruits like cucumber and watermelon could be good for him

too right now.

Well, luckily he hasn't had any fever since he went to the doctor. I have no

idea why. It was 7 days since the onset of his fever. And at Dr. Fred's office,

he broke out in a sweat, his fever was 98 and they gave him orange juice.

And yesterday he went through liquids like there was no tomorrow. Still no

fever, thank goodness.

And now he wants to eat fish, broccoli and carrots?

I think there was something in that fever of his.

lol

Oooooh, that's a good one. Twilight Zone, Sprouts Edition.

Can't you just see Rod Serline saying:

You're traveling through another dimension -- a dimension not only of sight and

sound but of Mung Beans and Chia Seeds. A journey into a wondrous land whose

boundaries are that of imagination, A land of Broccoli and Fenugreek, A land

rich with microgreens and French Garden Mix. That's a signpost up ahead: your

next stop:

" SPROUTLAND!!!! "

I have no idea. Essential oils have physiological effects and their tiny

molecules go all over your body. Your feet have bigger pores.than other

parts of you so it is absorbed.faster there. If you carry a bottle of

peppermint in the car, smell of it when you get sleepy and it will make you

more alert. A professor of psychology at U Cincinnati found students exposed

to the odor of peppermint scored 37% higher than evpected on tests. It helps

oxygenate your blood. Lots of wonders in nature's pharmacy and I am still

learning all the time

Great synopsis, Melody, LOL!! They were actually having a Twilight Zone

marathon on July 4th - it's wild seeing the old episodes and especially the

stars of way back then, who got their start on TZ!
