Hey Mel, the wife wishes you Happy Birthday also. However, we don't have any

Well, this weight business is new to me. In addition to the increased

girth, does it also promote hardier, healthier sprouts due to their struggle

to grow against the weight? Seems like there might be some logic there (if

we pushed against something like that for a time, we'd either be shorter or

stronger, LOL!!)

Right, putting weight on the beans causes them to push up, making them grow

larger in girth. A plate placed on the sprouts on day two, weighed down with

a couple of cans of whatever you have on hand, will do the trick.

EW:

You didn't mention weights. You know that we add weights after the first few

days so the mung beans can FIGHT THEIR WAY to the top of whatever we are

growing them in. This works ALL THE TIME. I learned this from you.

I didn't have any cake today. But I made ice cream in my Vitamix. Good Lord, it

was SO good it slapped my brain.

Sounds good, but if you don't find it, no worries - I get the concept!

BTW, Happy Birthday, you spry young thing at 64!! Now that I, too, am in my

sixth decade, I feel like we have something else in common! Hope your

birthday was a good one. I know it was filled with sprouts, LOL!! (someone

needs to figure out how to make a sprout cake!)

ooh A SPROUT CAKE!!

You know, while I was reading about the birds nest, I decided to grow a new

bunch of bean sprouts. Tonight I'll soak and in a few days I'll have HUGE

sprouts and I'll do the birds nest and I'll make a video.

It's really simple. You just take a handful of bean sprouts and put in a bowl,

you shred an onion, you mix it up. You add an egg (or egg white), and some panko

bread crumbs. you take your hands (get them nice and wet in the mix) and (you

should have oil heating up on the stove), you just take a bunch of sprouts and

just dump them in the pan. Not too big handfuls.

They will look like birds nest as they start to cook and crisp up. You can also

add other veggies to this concoction but the fastest way is to just use bean

sprouts. You turn them as they are crisping up. You drain on paper towel. And

the best part is you put a dollop of sour cream (or plain greek yogurt) or

whatever suits your fancy and you have a side dish to die for.

Oh I am DEFINITELY doing this in a few days.

I couldn't agree more, Melody. In my case, extreme food allergies keep me on

track-I gasp for air if I indulge, lol. But, as you said, once one becomes

acustommed to eating a certain way, the body adapts and cravings become a thing

of the past. When I first had to give up wheat and meat, I craved them ALL of

the time, but soon adapted and can now prepare these things for visiting family

without it bothering me in the least. It is simply getting over the initial

hurdle that counts.

Thank you EW.

I know you must have come up with your own creations! I will definitely

give this a try. The process sounds less cumbersome, as I even had to use

weights!

Two to two and half inches of sprouts are definitely good enough for me.

Yes, I will do Egg Fo Yung too as strangely enough, while I will eat the

sprouted bean mix raw, I cannot handle mung bean sprouts the same way. I am

too used to having them cooked.

Now, I am going to save these instructions and give them a try. My mung

beans will be put to good use and I no longer to get the mung bean sprouts

from the supermarkets, as they feel so slimy. I heard they have gone

through some gas to make the sprouts long and fat.
