Yep I read that also.  I am spoiled here in Chicago because we have access to

Whole Foods in either direction but the Sprouts Farm now that's a different

story.  Gotta check them out.

Thanks.

I read where EW does not use cornstarch. The next time I make a batch, I'm

going to follow his lead. He knows about GMO and non-GMO. I learned from him.

You can make your own organic tapioca starch too, lol!! Just grind some organic

tapioca pearls in your Vitamix or coffee grinder! :)

There is one non-aluminum baking powder, the brand is Ruthford's.

>

soda to two parts cream of tartar. Use the same amount of this mix as you would

" regular " baking powder. Go for it! Aluminum and plastic both terrify me.

When a recipe calls for corn starch as thickener, i substitute it with either

organic tapioca flour or arrowroot powder. Works the same.

So does kudzu root. And in buying kudzu, you are supporting the people of the SE

who got stuck with the dreadful stuff in the first place (imported as an

ornamental, took over the south, impossible to eradicate) and now are forced to

harvest it in order to get some good out of their absurd situation!

lived near any SPROUTS FARM, my husband would have to hold me back. I'd go nuts

I read it on one of Ernest's replies and I found it: http://sprouts.com/ Not

sure where you are located Melody but the place covers some of the west and

south west.  Totally agree with you though - I'd get lost in a place like that.

Believe me, if I we didn't need to live near all my husband's doctors etc, I'd

be on a plane and living in beautiful California. I've been there many times.

What really impressed me (well, that was over 40 years ago, was San Diego. I

remember being in a car and seeing all these beautiful buildings and saying " oh

what is that? " and the person laughed and said " It's a department store " .

I will NEVER forget the beauty of that city.

But that was over 42 years ago.

My worst experience was in LA I think it was. My girlfriend and I were both 22

and on our first trip away from home. My uncle who lived in California (can't

remember which part), was coming to pick us up the next morning, so we checked

into a hotel for the night.

Imagine, 2 INNOCENT 22 year olds, not knowing anything about hotels.

In the middle of the night, men were banging on our doors, screaming all sorts

of things. We huddled on the floor. Next day we left to meet my uncle at the

curb and all these prostitutes were ourside just waiting.

My uncle pulled up and said " What the hell kind of hotel did you stay at? " We

just hopped in.

So (and now here is where it gets very funny). He took us, his wife and 2

daughters across the border to Baja California.

We were 5 ladies and one man (my uncle) in the car.

We go to the border, the guards took one look at all the women in the car,

ordered him to pull over and said " put your hands up " .

My uncle goes " uh oh, I Know what this is all about'. We said " what? " He said

" he thinks you are all prostitutes " . We all looked at each other and said " he

thinks WHAT?? "

And sure enough, the head guard starts questioning us and we said " WE are 22

years old, what's happening'.

They made us pay $5.00 for a prostitute license. I swear to god, it was some

kind of scam going on at the border.

I never laughed so hard as when I had to tell my mother that I had a prostitute

license and had to pay $5.00 for it.

Don't remember the rest of the trip, except that we went to Lion Country Safari

where you stop the car and all the animals come over to you. An ostrich tried to

attack us in the car and while we were stopped, my uncle said 'don't look to the

left " . Of course, when someone says 'don't look to the left " , what do you think

we all did?

It seems that there was a Lion who decided to have his way with his wife " .

Well!!!! you should have seen us. We got hysterical. I had never seen this

before.

lol

I used to live in North Orange County--East LA.

That's why I moved to Alaska as soon as I could.

EW, is this the same outfit as Sprouts Farmers Market? I Googled SPROUTS FARMERS

MARKETS and got SPROUTS FARMERS MARKETS NEAR LA MESA, but the markets are listed

as Sprouts Farmers Market. I would like to be sure this is the same market you

are talking about. Sometimes the plural makes it a " whole different animal " ;>)

Thanks!

It's SPROUTS FARMERS MARKETS. They're like a fresh produce and health food store

rolled up in one. The list of things they won't sell is longer than the list of

what they do sell. All of there employees are very knowledgeable. They have a

fresh meat case where a butcher serves you. That might not mean much t some of

you, but here in SoCal, most meat is pre-packaged. Also, they have a fresh

bakery in the store.

Yes that's the one. They just recently merged with Henry's Farmers Markets.

Give them a visit. You will be pleased.

Thanks, ew! Fortunately, there is a " Henry's " (I still haven't got used to

calling it that 'cuz it used to be Boney's - now I have to get used to another

name!) less than 5 miles from me. I've not been there in a few months, but will

definitely visit again soon. Thanks so much for your input!
