Guest guest
Well that's what we are here for Melody. I just love hearing about your sprouting adventures. If it wasn't for you, I wouldn't have even started. > To: sproutpeople > From: eliz7212@... > Date: Tue, 20 Mar 2012 13:38:35 +0000 > Subject: Re: Need some input on watering my sunnies > > Yeah, that's why (I forget who), but someone said " Never mist " . They all know I sprout. Been doing this for year. I rarely talk about sprouting because they are NOT into it and they eat bacon eggs, sausage and home fries in one meal for breakfast. So why on earth would I ever talk about sprouting (unless someone approaches me and says " Oh, what are those little things you are putting on your sandwich). > > So this morning I decided to bring in the little mason jar filled with the soaked sunflower seeds and the colander container (with the roots) to show them what happens when you take a seed and see what happens in 5 or 6 days from putting them in the sun. > > Well!!! it went over like a lead balloon. Guest guest
I'm guilty, too, but I have the bacon instead of the sausage. But I do like sprouts on my BLT's. It is not soemthing easy to change a lifestyle. I figure that the things I add by sprouting and raw veggies will help me. But it is work, though not too much with sprouting. Gardening takes a lot of work and I know you are all into that. I want to but haven't been too successful. I hope to learn a bit and do better.  Carolyn Wilkerson  To: sproutpeople Sent: Tuesday, March 20, 2012 9:38 AM Subject: Re: Need some input on watering my sunnies  Yeah, that's why (I forget who), but someone said " Never mist " . But I only dunk them in the pan of water for a minute, then (from now on), I'll mist from the top. But I have to tell you what happened this morning (and I know EXACTLY how you felt when you stood in front of the garden club and no one cared). When I go out for breakfast I bring a little tub of sprouts and put them on my egg sandwich. Everyone was sitting down and I said " I have something to show you guys " . And I took out the little mason jar with the soaked sunflowers. I said " These are soaked sunflowers " . And look at what happens in 6 days or so, and I was like a magician. I pulled the whole container out of my shopping bag. I expected " ooooohs and aaaaahs. Two people looked mildly amused. They said " oh wow " . But a very quiet " ow wow " . But the one that really disappointed me was the person I sit with at breakfast in the morning. She's 72, never cooks, always gets take out because as she puts it. Why the heck do I have to cook? She took one look at the container of fully grown sunflower greens and she gave a look, rolled her eyes and said " Too much work for me, why cant you just eat the sunflower seeds? " I said " because they have shells " . she said " So take them apart " . I said'the purpose is that I grow my own salad " . She said 'too much work " . I immediately dropped the subject. All of a sudden (and thank god for that), one of the waitresses came over and said " I wanted to see the sunflowers don't put them away " . I took them out of the bag and she was SO impressed. THAT was the reaction I had hoped for. After breakfast, I went next door to the butcher Dominick (who I know very well) and he saw the bag and said " Melody, whats that " . Well, I went into my presentation and he had this amazed look on his face. And he said " That is so cool " . I went into Walgreens to see another person I know who was not waiting on anyone and I showed her and she said " Get out of here, that is SO cool " . So 50% of my efforts were met with enthusiam and the other flat out like a lead balloon. And believe me, if I didn't talk about sprouting before at breakfast, I will not talk about it now. I know the looks. They are all eating their sausages and potatoes and I never say a word. I think it's the brain of these people that are so much into the food that goes into their brains and comforts them that they can't fathom the notion of HEALTHY eating. lol Melody
