Guest guest
Hi Ladies, My kids & I will hopefully be moving in July across the country. I'm planning on flying with both the kids. My daughter has been a plane several times. I've never flown with my son as I wasn't sure how autistic kids do on planes. I've got medicine for him to help him relax & put him to sleep if necessary. We plan on flying late at night, so he should be very tired. I'm going to have a portable DVD player & his favorite movies. I plan on making sure that the airlines & the airplane staff are aware of his autism & that I will medicate him if necessary. We will have his headphones to help with the loud noise. I'm working on putting together a social story for him. Am I forgetting anything?? The flight should be a nonstop, so I don't have to worry about changing planes or layovers. I feel like I might be missing/overlooking something. I want this to be as smooth as possible. Any help, ideas or tips would be appreciated! Thanks, Lori
Guest guest
Hi Lori, I have a software program called 'Going on an Airplane', that may help your child feel more secure with the entire process (preparing for the trip, riding to the airport, going through the terminals, etc.). You can download it (for free) on my www.hiyah.net site. Sara Going on Airplane--Am I Missing Anything? Hi Ladies,My kids & I will hopefully be moving in July across the country. Guest guest
Yes Coloring books was a hit for my son even though fine motor is not his forte. He was calmed by it gave him something to focus on. I say above all try not to be too anxious about the trip becuz they pick up on our anxieties. Just my experience. I had dvd and movies on first trip but I was so stressed that it wasn't all that successful I even had a very thorough social story. 2nd trip I was more relaxed and he had coloring books and snacks helped! Good luck! Jane To: AutismBehaviorProblems From: pkuenstler@...Date: Thu, 14 May 2009 13:37:19 -0400Subject: Re: Going on Airplane--Am I Missing Anything?
