Don't meant to butt in -- but is sounds like you got your hands full Dear. Will be praying for things to get better for you and your Son. I know just how difficult teens can be -- I have a 16 and 17 year old. I am just ever so grateful that there Father is around to help care for them -- or I would be lost. Hats off to you and pat yourself on the back. You are doing wonderful -- especially while on treatment.

I was only on treatment for 16 weeks -- but withdrawls was no fun... For a brief moment -- I thought I felt better on the tx than off. And then withdrawls left -- and reality is that you actually do feel much better off than on. I have tons more energy and not near the aches and pains -- also no fevers and night sweats are going -- NOW LETS PRAY THE DRAGON STAYS SLEEPING.... PLEASE LADIES SAY AN EXTRA PRAYER WHEN YOU GET A CHANCE -- AS YOU ALL ARE IN MINE NIGHTLY...

Love you all and May God continue to bless us all..

If Cale gets in the National Guard program, he'll be done the beginning of December. I'll be done with tx the end of Dec -- so I guess I get a kid back about the time I'm going through tx withdrawals! Ain't it gonna be a fun year?

Apparently they have a family visitation weekend about a month into it then he gets a weekend pass to come home about every 6 weeks. I'll have to take him to orientation the end of May then the class starts end of June-first of July & he'll be locked up till then except for the day pass for orientation. I know in my head it's best this way, but damn it hurts.

Gonna do a little at a time and search/clean out his room. Better go to Sam's Club for a big ole box of trash bags! LOL

Really gotta commend my mother though. She has always been very supportive and has never once hollered "payback!".

Funny, but while I was on TX, I had to go see a Pulmonary specialist, because I couldn't hardly breathe, and was coughing constantly. I was diagnosed also, with COPD, but then as soon as I stopped the TX, it went away....................Go figure????

Pat,

That is wonderful about karac!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! J ust to do horseback riding and was in the paper 2 times when they did an article on autism and horseback riding. I would like to get him in it again. I might check it out and see If I can get him started again. Lois

Horseback riding has been very good for Karac. His mother takes him to Equest on

Wednesdays, and I take him to SpiritHorse on Mondays. SpiritHorse is free, and there

he has to brush the horse and get him ready to mount before he rides and he has to

take every thing off and put it up afterwards, plus lead the horse back to the field.

Why did JJ stop the horseback riding? Pat K

What will determine if he can go? Do they have a waiting list? PK

Re: Pat

I haven't asked him yet. I think I will wait to see if he can go and if he can then I will say something to him. Lois

CLASS pays for Karac's Equest. Why would the Autism waiver not continue to pay for it?

I've been following this line of conversation, sorry for butting in girls. I have recently applied for to attend Riding for the Disabled here in Sydney after speaking to a Mum of an Asbergers child. What I fail to see is how riding a horse helps an autistic child. Can you ladies please tell me how it has helped your kids?

Thanks

Debbie.

Karac learned sequencing in the process of preparing the horse for mounting; he also learned to focus on the task,

Feeding, brushing, and washing the horse taught him to care for another organism. Giving the horse commands

increased verbalization, The rhythm of the horse was very calming for him. I also think he liked it because it gave

him a sense of control. He liked to sing when riding the horse. We called him the singing cowboy.

These are the things he learned at SpiritHorse; at Equest he primarily just rides, but he also has the ridefest there which allows

him to compete and feel good about himself. Pat K

I think this is the most wonderful program I have had Maddie participate in! Unfortunately, due to our family schedule, she can't do it at this time but we would put her back in if the opportunity ever came up again.

Maddie started when she was little. She had trouble with balance and walking - the horseriding we felt helped her balance and her posture (she also takes a special needs ballet class to help with these issues too.) We noticed a difference in her attitude when she was "on" the horse - it sort of gave her more confidence. I know they said it helps with muscle tone both lower and upper. The horse also seemed to calm Maddie down. She is always in motion - rocking, flapping, etc. When she was on the horse that went away. The volunteers would set up different stations and they would work on different activities - talking, colors, counting, etc. (They tried to set up the times with kids working on the same things so it was easier on the volunteers.) The older higher functioning kids also got to learn how to ride a horse w/out or minimal help, saddeling, brideling, etc. They worked on eye contact

with Maddie while she was there - she had to look at the volunteers while doing her station, but we saw the first eye/face contact was with the horse!

If you can enroll your child, I would definitely recommend it. I know as time goes on, there are more activities that are open to our kids (baseball, we have a dance class, etc.). But I still fell there are too few activities out there to let our kids shine:)
