Hi Kali,

After the fourth day, taste the sprouts. If you like them, eat them. Or let

them go for another day and taste again. I usually go 6 days on most sprouts and

four days on beans and lentils

Beginning Sprouter-- average temp in home 81F

Hi!

I am new to sprouting but I am so excited to become proficient. My first

problem is, I am using an Easy Sprout, but the average temperature in my home is

80 or so, I can't change that.

I am unsure about when sprouts are ready, as far as mixes. I have a broccoli,

alfalfa and radish blend. I didn't know if there were any tips about when to

harvest in regards to mixes, so my crop doesn't spoil. I had 3 crops spoil. I

don't want to lose the growth time but I don't want to sacrifice the entire

crop. Suggestions?

Thank you for reading my question. Happy holidays!

Hi

The one to answer this is Melody! She created a cool pack system to place her

sprouting containers in.

So, Melody-what are this links to your videos on keeping sprouts cool?

There is also the red-neck air conditioning unit you can make for about 10

bucks. I have one in my room and it cools down the temp about 15 degrees.

Youtube has pictures of how to make one. Very easy.

Does depend on electricy though.

Between these two, the cooling chamber and the red-neck a/c unit, you can get

the temps down. I had the same problem years ago and these two solutions solved

the 'rotting just before they were ready to eat' problem.

Happily Sprouting

Melody I would be interested in the cooling method also. Can you tell me

where to find it at?

Thanks,

Tammie

Hi.

I just made that particular video public. What it is is a styrofoam container

(big one) that Kansas City steaks came in. My friend gave it to me. It was

perfect for about 4 or 5 trays (with covers).

So when it is hot in my kitchen, I stack the sprouting trays and their

respective covers in this styrofoam cooler.

I then take the frozen (I call them cold keepers) and I place them inside the

cooler around the trays). I put the top on and 12 hours later, I rinse and

drain the sprouts and put them back in the styrofoam cooler.

Worked like a charm last summer. I'll do it from now on. I don't have air

conditioning in my kitchen and it does get hot.

You can see how I decorated it.

Here you go. Let me know what you think. I wish I could find the other video

that shows me stacking the trays but you can see what the container looks like.

Looks rather pretty
