Melody,

This is another great story for that upcoming book of yours that I know

you'll be writing! I love your emphatic way of writing! The title of your

book should be How to Be a Spring Chicken with Sprouts', LOL (or something

like that!)! Seriously, start compiling these stories amid informational

tidbits about sprouting and healthy living and I bet you'll have a best

seller, especially for the older generation who may be starting out late

(but never too late to start being healthier!).

EW:

The hardiest, most energetic, raring to go lady of the group that I was

standing and talking with was Angie. She has daughters in their 60's. She

was all dolled up, in a gorgeous purple outfit with dangling purple earrings

and her black hair was in an updo and her makeup was perfect and she looked

like . I said " Angie where are you going all dressed up? "

and she said " Oh, my nephew is taking me someplace " I then told the other

ladies about the time (during a feast in our neighborhood) when the music

was blasting at the other end of the block. I had walked past Angie's house,

grabbed her (this was 2 years ago) and we started dancing on the sidewalk.

She is SOME dancer. Her daughter was standing in the doorway looking at us

with a frown and her daughter said (tiredly). " Mom, don't you ever stop,

don't you ever get tired " ?

I replied for her. I said " She can get tired when she's dead, and right now

she's not dead "

Then I twirled her around the sidewalk and we both burst out laughing.

AND SHE'S 84 YEARS YOUNG.

I told her today " I am going to get my Flip video camera and make a video of

you dancing in the street so my other friends can get a look at you "

She batted her eyes and said " Anytime " .

I LOVE THIS WOMAN!!!

lol

Thea:

Thanks much for the kind words. I have a question. Exactly how many sprouters do

you think there are in the USA??

Thousands?? Hundreds of Thousands??

Someone asked me this today.

I happened to mention that I had just had a delcious lunch of Grilled Tempeh on

my sprout salad and someone said " Yuck, what is Tempeh? " and I said " Remember I

told you before, it's fermented whole Soybeans?? "

The person then said " Oh my God, that sounds disgusting, I think I'll pass " .

Since this is the usual statement once I mention fermented whole soybeans, I'm

not mentioning it anymore.

If someone asks me what I ate I'll simply say " Oh a salad and some veggies " and

I'll change the subject.

I'm getting tired of all these comments. I don't try and push anything on

anyone. If they ask, I answer but that's it.

I have no idea how many sprouters there are in the USA. Certainly not

enough - that's for sure. You can find all sorts of books on various diets

in bookstores and at the library but very little on sprouting without

ordering online - it's just not that common to do, it seems.

The ladies at my office know about my sprouting and have expressed an

interest in doing it too (remember, I work in a wellness practice, so

nutritional health is at the forefront). I share it with others too as

the topic of health comes up, but haven't really had that many who are

bowled over by sprouting. I tend to think that people think it's just too

time consuming or something.

The bottom line is that there are those who will be interested and want to

learn more and those that don't. It's that way with everything. So, we'll

teach the willing, and in the meantime, perhaps the non-willing will change

their perspective some day. And then they'll come back and they'll thank us

for shedding light into their nutritional lives, LOL!

You could say that tempeh is soybeans held together by a mushroom. I think that

sounds delightful. Also how about bread is fermented wheat flour? There are all

kinds of ways to see the foods that others eat as disgusting if you choose to.

So I think your friend had chosen to see your food as disgusting before you said

anything. I don't pass on anything new until I've tasted it first, maybe I'm

just odd.

All I can say is that if you're nuts, then we're all certifiable, LOL!! So

we'll go with you to the nuthouse! Maybe nuts, but definitely healthier

than those others who eat the so-called 'convenient' way!

BTW, anyone read Pollan's (I think that's his name - the book isn't

right beside me at the moment) book, Food Rules? Just got it from the

library and it seems like a very common sense approach to healthy eating!

Just started it.

Mel, You are defiantly not nuts.

We know that the Western Diet is killing Americans every day. I would say the

woman is extremely lucky to eat junk and be 84.

Thea,

Yes, it is Pollan. His book / Food Rules,/ / i/s sort of a condensed

version of his book / In Defense of Food:An Eater's Manifesto./ I recommend them

both. I gave them as gifts to people who needed and I thought would read them.

As Melody says: They don't all listen to what's good for them.

Hmm, I'll have to see if the library has In Defense of Food as well then.

I really like the name of his chapters in this smaller book - if I remember

correctly (being at work at the moment), it is 1. What to Eat? (and then he

types his answer underneath) - Eat Food, and 2. What kind of Food? Food from

Plants and the third one is something like How do we eat? And the answer is

Don't Eat Too Much Food, or something similar. Basic answers to basic questions

without a lot of mystery. Good common sense!

No NO NO, the 84 year old is NOT the one who eats anything junky, THE OTHER

PEOPLE DO.

The 84 year old is a vegetarian who takes vitamins and supplements and has all

these health books around the house.

She NEVER eats junk food.

When I get her on video, I'll show you.
