Guest guest
thankyou, melody.....i'll bet that you're one of those people who take a " pinch " of this or " some " that and come up with wonderful tasting dishes !.....i don't have much instinct for things like this.....after i get the " jist " of something, i can then make my own way but i'm not there with the mung sprouts last night i put them to soak and set them into the sprouter this morning.....so, i plan to rinse them twice a day like i am doing with my others and watch them sprout.....would i put weight on them after a few days or when ?.....i'm in a much different atmosphere where we live now than what the conditions were in my florida kitchen and i'm learning anew.....thanks, peace, mary
Guest guest
You can use broccoli, cauliflower, bok choy, onions, carrots, water chestnuts, yellow squash or zucchini in a stir fry and add mung bean sprouts. I personally like mine with chicken but some like shrimp. Although the stir fry would likely be good anyway. Add soy sauce. Some add Hoisin sauce. Then serve over rice. Brown is better. Guest guest
While I am growing the mung beans (in the round green trays), I put the mung beans in the bottom trays and all the other trays are stacked on top. In about 3 days, the bean sprouts have sprouted to the top of the trays. The weight of all the trays ON TOP, well they have their own weight so I can just let them do this until the 5th day and I'm all set. No added weights because I have 4 or 5 trays ON TOP of the bottom mung bean tray. But...if I want to sprout them separately, then (still using a round green tray), I wait until day 4 when all the bean sprouts have reached the top of the tray. I then put the cover on and put two cans of soups, or two 2 lb dumbells. You should see how they grow. They literally burst out of the tray all by themselves. So again, there are two ways I weigh them down. First being the other sprouting trays which stack on on the other. Or I use dumbells or two soup cans (when using one round green tray and cover) Melody > > thankyou, melody.....i'll bet that you're one of those people who take a " pinch " of this or " some " that and come up with wonderful tasting dishes !.....i don't have much instinct for things like this.....after i get the " jist " of something, i can then make my own way but i'm not there with the mung sprouts > > last night i put them to soak and set them into the sprouter this morning.....so, i plan to rinse them twice a day like i am doing with my others and watch them sprout.....would i put weight on them after a few days or when ?.....i'm in a much different atmosphere where we live now than what the conditions were in my florida kitchen and i'm learning anew.....thanks, peace, mary >
Guest guest
thanks so much, melody.....you've given me a schedule to follow and that's helpful right now.....i'm starting on day 3 and the've started to sprout.....they seem happy enough right now.....our " kitchen area " is cool ( around 65 deg ) and i'm finding that things are sprouting a little slower than when the weather is warm.....actually, i've found that my others have greened up and been crisper in the coolness.....another new and exciting experience !.....peace, mary

Guest guest
 Me, too. I just found 4 pie plates at the Thrift store but they were $3 each which was more than I thought they would be. I got 4 napkins like new for $1 which sort of made up for it. I bought 2 small mason jars at the Dollar Store and a sugar pourer there which has lid with holes (for larger beans, not alfalfa). I also got a little shelf thing that is plastic covered wire which I'll put on the counter to hold the draining bottles and then I can lay them on their side. Now have to find sunflowers and the coir. I heard that Home Depot may have the coir. I'll check within a few days and after I check a drawer here to see if I have some left from planting amarylis for Christmas gifts year before last. The pie plates are in the dishwasher. Husband is rearranging it as he says it wouldn't close up well or the spinning arm won't spin. But I can't do anything until I get my seed. Does Sprout House have sunnies? Oh, I got a butterfly net which is nylon and will make the 2 covers for the top of the Mason jars from that. Do I need to sew around the outside edge to keep it from unraveling?
