Guest guest
Pray for a male therapist. God will send you one at the right time. I prayed for one for a year before I finally got one. I have had two outstanding one. is the one I have now and he is teacher and friend. Pat K Re: Being very social and autistic My son favors "ample" ladies!!! Mother figures I suppose Being very social and autistic Hello all, I have a question for all of you. Our son's shrink says that our son who is four is autistic but has trouble with the dx because of how social he is. He loves to be around people most of the time but will go to his room and sort of leave this world for a while. We don't allow him to do this very often and he is only allowed to be alone for an hour or so and no more when he is like this. But I have a problem with what the doc said. She said that kids with autism are not social. I find this not to be true. At therapy I see plenty of children that are autistic and they are very social. One boy that we got to know is nonverbal like our son but you know that he really enjoys being around you when he sees you. His mother agreed with me that it is simply not true that ALL children with autism are that way.She said that they are all different and they all have different symptoms of it. I am totally confused. How many parents on here have children that are non social? I heard that it was a myth that ALL autistic children are antisocial so I thought I would ask all of you. Guest guest
We lived in Oakbrook Terrace until we moved here. I really miss the area sometimes the shopping and restaurants and especially Cosco, but I do not miss the traffic. Guest guest
I do believe people with autism can be social. I also have to agree with the blonde thing as I have many students who "prefer blondes". What I see is that many of my kiddos can be social, but that have trouble picking up on the subtle/non-verbal cues and more complex interactions. JMHO! Guest guest
I think examining things has put me in a great mood! I have been quite silly all day even with a house full of kids. I've been watching the neighbors kids today and it's been fun. Mostly they play with Paige and I've gotten so much done (even spending so much time on-line). I think it is easier for me when I figure out what the problem is and really great when I control it! I have the power LOL! Thanks so much for all the encouragement and for being such great friends. Guest guest
Sharon, Yes the early intervention here is wonderful. It's not as good now as when we first moved but it's still better then most. Once you hit school age it is kind of hit and miss. I had a very bad school for kindergarten and 1st grade but the new school has been wonderful for the repeat of 1st grade and now 2nd grade. It took 5+ meetings at the old school to convince them he needed to repeat 1st grade and they had no idea how to work with behaviors or really what he needed. Thank goodness this new school was built by our house. It is amazing and supportive. Wish we still lived closer to family but I wouldn't give up his waiver or the school we have now for anything. When was at Hopewall they would always say how social was so they didn't think he had Autism and I just knew he did! And this is a special Needs school he went to for preschool. But I asked could it be possible that this was a comeplete learned behavior since I have loved on and all my kids right from the first day of life so much and she said ya that is probably why!StacieSent via BlackBerry by AT&TFrom: "mel" Date: Fri, 3 Apr 2009 08:33:29 +0100To: <AutismBehaviorProblems >Subject: Re: Being very social and autistic Stacie - that is exactly my son - I think it is because children are very unpredictable. my son is a terrible flirt with the ladies!!!!!! We travelled to Elmhurst very very far for speech cause the therapist he had was wonderful - we miss her to this day. From: Two Blessings <ljdjd1234yahoo (DOT) com>Subject: Re: Being very social and autisticTo: AutismBehaviorProbl emsyahoogroups (DOT) comDate: Friday, April 3, 2009, 2:06 PMOh, my goodness, I just wrote this about ...he adores blonds....It is a joke at our house because I'm a brunette...Thanfull y I've always dated men who preferred brunettes with blue eyes... Whenever a therapist would come to interview and meet I knew we had a hit first if she was young and had high energy, second if she was blond he was in heaven!! We always joked that he was such a typical male! Older blonds work well but the young cute ones are always his favorites. An interesting note do any of your kids remember everything. can out of the blue mention his past therapists by name. He says Kathy all gone, Jessie all gone, etc.. as well as he can list our cars in the order we had them by the colors he will say white car,red card, black van,etc... Many of these people and cars were from when he was 2 1/2 and non verbal. It amazes me when we run into someone hasn't seen in 5 years and he says their name. Mother figures I suppose Being very social and autisticHello all,I have a question for all of you. I heard that it was a myth that ALL autistic children are antisocial so I thought I would ask all of you.Thank you,a Windows Live™: Keep your life in sync. Check it out..... Guest guest
My daughter is definately autistic but she got the less PDD-NOS label because she is social. She does have times when she wants to be alone, but NT's are like that too sometimes. She was diagnosed at KKI.
