,

I just wanted to say that my husband and I adopted a baby through foster care and it is the most rewarding thing I have ever done..We already had 2 girls and always said that we would take in kids that needed a safe place and love until they could go home or find permadent home for them.. Well my son was the first call my husband and I received. He was almost 4 months old and weighted 8 pounds.. His birth mom was 15 and in eighth grade. The minute I saw him I was in love and knew that it was going to be hard to give him back... We adopted him 2 weeks before his second birthday.. Devin is now 6 and has Classic autism and was diagnosed before we finalized the adoption.. Just wanted to share..

Lesley

-- Re: age

Wow, that really is amazing. Thank God there are people like you out there willing to give so much of yourself. I occasionally go on the adoption photolistings for kids in foster care just to look at all of those kids that need homes and cry for them (is that weird? lol). My husband and I have discussed possibly doing that when we are older. We had our first at age 22, which was very young in our circles. But given the level of attention our kids have required, its a good thing we started young! Our oldest (now 6) is PDD-NOS and our youngest is 4 1/2 with mild/mod autism. The second was a COMPLETE surprise (yes- it only takes one time lol) but it turned out to be a good thing. Even though our youngest does not socialize at ALL with other kids, you should see him with his brother. They are so precious playing together it nearly brings me to tears every single day. They help each other in so many ways, and understand each other better than I can sometimes. They hold hands when they cross the street, help each other get their shoes on, build tents and forts, play pirates, share the computer, and I could go on and on. It truly is amazing to see the bond that they have with each other, especially considering that the 'professionals' see my youngest son's biggest weakness as being 'unable to relate to others'!! If they could only see him at home with his brother! I thank God every day that he knew better than I did when I should have that second child! :) W>> I gave birth to my first child at 20.( He is now 37) I gave birth to my 2nd child at 29.(He is now 28) They are both great men and doing well. I had a lot of energy with them (and not so many smarts!!!!!). I got my first foster child I adopted () when I was 42 and my last one I adopted when I was 46. I don't have as much energy.....but I am a lot smarter!!!!!!! The only thing I worry about as I get older, is not being around when they need me later in life..... Although these kids are several handfuls (LOL), I wouldn't trade them for the world. They are now 16, 14, 12, & 11.> > Ellen>

Lesley, you are a doll...a wonderful mother and friend. I love what you've done for Devin...he is a blessing, and has come so far.

I'm sorry I missed out chat today --- I'll be better tomorrow. LOL --- running around like a maniac, but I got him there, and even said goodbye to one of his social skill friends...

Hugs to you...

It has been raining here most of the day too, but it stopped long enough

for Karac to swing in his tire swing. He loves that swing and it is so

calming for him after a long stressful day at school.

How was JJ today? Pat K

I haven't gone to sleep yet....cause I don't want to wake up tomorrow...it was a rough day today --- fits galore, tantrums abundant....I hate being negative when talking about , but oh my bad days are just so bad!!! :):(

NO I have not been...but my father traveled lots to his beloved south of France, and Germany many, many times when I was little....I hope to go with my sweet little girl someday....but she wants to go where it is "green mommy, what's that green place?" --- Ireland...she says, "yes, there mommy..." So maybe we'll start there.

I have been to the French Riviera; have you? was vice president of TransTex Supply and we were the number onesupplier of Mueller Fire Hydrants; so Mueller gave the company a trip for 6 people. We took our son, Konrad, and my sister whohad recently lost her husband and another couple. They paid for every thing and even gave us money to gamble in Monte Carlo. They even took us over into Italy and wined and dined us. We had so much fun. It is a nice memory. Pat K Re: Re: age

I know what you mean, e. Maybe today God will give you a good

day. it is sort of like living on a roller coaster. LOL,

I'm going to see my sister this morning. She is in the hospital in Rockwall. I

think she is dying. She is a christian; she will be ok. I read somewhere that

death is the "ultimate healing".

I do a lot of praying when I am in the car. I'll pray for this to be a sweet day

for you and . Love and blessings, Pat K

It worked Pat --- while not a quiet day, we have had therapy, so that makes it easier on me...and him really...I woke up to his screaming, and didn't want to get out of bed, but I was rested, let me sleep in till 7:30 (I think it was that time :) Anyhow...I felt rested, and throughout the day when things get loud I say a prayer...it's all I can do.

I will pray for your sister Pat K.

Sara, I love this...what you say is so true. I'm sorry about your recent losses...I love what Dan said, that was cute. She's in peace now...but it is so hard for us left behind....I was listening to someones Testimony yesterday, a lady who lost her husband recently --- and she said to him beofre he died "For you, it will only be a second, for me I have to live with your death the rest of my life..." So true.

Pat,

I'm so sorry to hear about your sister's condition. I often wonder if death is worse for those left living, than the one's leaving. My dad passed away 15 months ago. Dan's step-mother (his second one) died two weeks ago. She had a heart attack on good Friday, went into a coma for three days, and woke up on Easter....how bizarre is that? Dan spoke to her when she awoke, and accused her of stealing Jesus' thunder LOL. She laughed and thought it was really funny. She passed away the next day. Death is an impossible concept for my boys to understand. It makes me worried to think what would happen to them, if something happened to me.

I had a very sweet visit with my sister. I have been reading Max Lacado's 3:16 to her every time I visit. Today we finished the last

chapter. It seemed appropriate. I stroaked her hair and told her that I loved her. I am thankful that I had that time with her.

You are very kind, Sara. Love and blessings, Pat K

Thanks for your prayers; I had a very sweet hour with my sister. We finished reading Max Lacado's 3:16. She didn't talk, but she gave me

good eye contact the whole time.

Karac is happily entertaining himself right now; I better go see HOW he is entertaining himself. LOL, Pat K
