Guest guest
Pat, I got it thru the ARC here. They paid for it a few years ago. Is Karac getting services thru the autism wavier? J has gotten them since he was 10. The arc here has a program called "Stepping stones" and thru them I got it. But I am sure it can be bought someplace else. Its a therapy swing. I will try to get more info for you on it. Lois Re: Re: age

Guest guest
Karac receives CLASS; I don't know if they would pay for that or not. That was certainly a good deal; wasn't it! Guest guest
I'm sorry your sister is not doing well. That is a big responsibility to be in control of the decisions. My sister has two daughters who live in this metropolitan area and they make the decisions for my sister. Pat K Re: Re: age {at, I have a sister who is 71 and not doing well. Guest guest
Hi Pat, You're lucky that you were able to spend time with your sister. My dad went on a hunger strike, and the staff at the nursing home didn't notify us of this fact, until he was near death. (He was there because of kidney failure, and needed dialysis). We told them to put a feeding tube in, (which they did) but it was really too late. He was down to 140 lbs and was covered with bedsores (all the way to his bones). They just 'forgot' about him basically. My sister was able to be with my dad when he died. I couldn't fly up, because there wasn't anyone able to watch my boys, for the length of time needed. We live in Florida, and he was in Chicago. Having two boys with autism is extremely limiting in ways you can not imagine. Last year, I missed half of my daughter's wedding, because of this fact. I didn't get to dance, see her cut the cake, toss her bouquet, be included in family group photos, etc. I just wasn't 'there' for her. It's just sad, how limiting life can be. Guest guest
Yes, I was blessed to spend time with my sister, and I would like to spend more time with her, but as you say life can be very limiting. It was good that your sister could be with your father and that he didn't have to die alone. I'm so sorry you missed part of your daughter's wedding. Did your husband miss part of it too. I bet you really would have enjoyed the dance. One of our granddaughters got married in October and and I danced at the reception. I t was such fun. Was it her wedding that motivated you to do the program for the boys on a wedding? You have worked so hard for your boys and we have all been blessed because of it. blessings, Pat K Re: Re: age Hi Pat, You're lucky that you were able to spend time with your sister. Guest guest
Hi Pat, I made the 'Going to a Wedding' program after my daughter got married. I included some of her photos in it (from the church). Dan and I both left the wedding reception early (before anything started). We had to relieve the sitter at home. The wedding was in North Carolina, and we live in Florida, so it was a mad dash back to Florida. My boys were not included in the wedding. They tend to be extremely disruptive, and would have ruined my daughter's wedding (if they attended). As it was, even the sitter at home couldn't handle them. Guest guest
Well........its a long story about my sister. She was 19 when I was born. She married this "Man" and I use the word sparenly and had a child and I think she went thru what they call "Post partum depression BUT it was the early 60's and they did'nt know about it then. She was a mess and her husband left her and my mom and dad took her to a state Hosp. And it was horriable...........They did shock treatmants on her......She had throzine (sp)? and a bunch of other stuff. But my parents were just county folk and didn't know what to do and I was only 2 when it happened to her. I grew up always going to visit her and she got instutionalized there. She never got to have ahome of her own or nothing. I lost a brother to cancer and the other one was in the service his whole life andwe didn't see him much. When dad and mom died I was the only one to take "Control" for her. She is 71 now and I didn't think she would live this long considering all she has went thru. Plus-She is an hour and a half away from me. But I do what I can. Sorry so long. Lois (: Re: Re: age
Guest guest
Oh, what a shame that your sitter couldn't handle them. I guess two are more challenging than one. I have just Karac; he is 5'11 and weighs 182 lbs. He can be very aggressive. Fortunately I have a 25 year old male special ed. teacher who can handle Karac. I thank God for him. I prayed for a year for a young male to work with Karac. The photos in "Going to a Wedding" are beautiful. How long did it take you to make that program? Thank you for all those wonderful programs. blessings, Pat K Re: Re: age Hi Pat, I made the 'Going to a Wedding' program after my daughter got married. Guest guest
Lois, bless your sweet heart; I can just visualize you as a little two year old going to visit your sister; do you remember what you thought or felt about it? Did your parents know that you would care about your sister after they were gone? I am quietly praying and hoping that Karac's older sister, Kali, will look after him after DH and I are gone. I lost a brother too. It seems like many of us on this list have experienced some loss early in life. I wonder if that is one of the reasons that we relate to one another so easily and gently. Second thought, I'm not always so gentle. LOL, Pat K Re: Re: age Well........its a long story about my sister. She was 19 when I was born. Guest guest
Pat, We would go visit her and I remenber my parents either saying she was having a good day or a bad day. On Holidays we would get her for a few days but sometimes we had to take her back due to her behaviours. And the thing is My mom would say how Betty was such a normal girl going up. It is so sad. its like-I have a sister but never got to share anything with her. Sometimes I'am not so gentle either...haha! I am known as the mom from hell" at the board of ed. haha! Getting ready to be the mom from hell with the adult thingy now. Lois Re: Re: age

Guest guest
Hi Pat, It took me a couple of months to make the program. You can see my daughter in a couple of photos. She's on the 17th slide, with her husband-to-be putting the ring on her hand; and on slide 120 (she's walking down the hallway in the church). Someone also gave me a video clip of dancing at the reception with a couple little girls, so I put that one in the 'Going to a Wedding Reception'. I wish my boys could have been present, but Mark is a screamer, and throws himself on everything. was a biter (at the time) and would have attacked the guests. (He bit on her stomach a couple months before her wedding). It would have been a disaster. Most sitters can't handle my boys. Some sitters have bolted from our house (literally) via bedroom windows, etc. to get away from my boys. That's good that Karac has a strong male teacher. It may be what my boys need too.
