Wow, what a woman!! Don't worry; as young as you are you'll be

around long enough.smile, Pat K

age

I gave birth to my first child at 20.( He is now 37) I gave birth to my 2nd child at 29.(He is now 28) They are both great men and doing well. I had a lot of energy with them (and not so many smarts!!!!!). I got my first foster child I adopted () when I was 42 and my last one I adopted when I was 46. I don't have as much energy.....but I am a lot smarter!!!!!!! The only thing I worry about as I get older, is not being around when they need me later in life..... Although these kids are several handfuls (LOL), I wouldn't trade them for the world. They are now 16, 14, 12, & 11.

I have one child (Zach, age 4, PDD-NOS). I was 39 when I got pregnant, (can you

say " surprise??!! " ) 40 when he was born. I had been on the pill for years, went

off it to give my body a rest, was being careful(obviously not careful

enough...LOL!!! Had I done my homework, I would have learned that you become a

" Fertlie Myrtle " after being on the pill for as long as I had been, but that's

all in the past, and I can barely remember my life before Zach, and can't

imagine why I thought parenthood wasn't for me)and " voila " ...Zachary!! In some

ways I wish I had another child, so Zachary would have others in his immediate

life besides just me and his Dad. It's hard to be his sole source of

companionship/amusement, but at age 44 (almost 45), he's not going to have a

sibling. I don't have friends with young children and with Zach's autism, he

doesn't really " play " with other kids anyway. I have made friends with mothers

in his pre-school (and the support group they run), but it's hard to arrange

play dates...he requires so much attention that there's not much time to connect

with other moms when we attempt to get together.

I understand Tracey, while I have many precious girlfriends, I call them chosen sisters, not one has a child with Autism -- one has a daughter my daughter's age with Auditory Processing and OCD.....she has come so far, just with therapy --- anyhow I do know that's it's hard to connect with mom's who don't get it :)

I will pray that someone very special will just pop into your life...someone with a boy just like yours, and or something that bonds you...smaller "play dates" are best with Autism...just my two cents. It is hectic...but doable.

I'm glad you posted....post often, as we all sort of have a friendship going here. :)

I was 34 when my son and his twin sister were born via Cesarean section in 1991. My son was breech. My first daughter(1989) was emergency C-section for failure to progress(her head was too big to fit through my pelvic opening) and I nearly lost her....so the Gyn decided C-section would be best for the twins as well...then the day before I was supposed to go home I developed near death complications...toxic mega-colon that the doctors could not diagnose until after 2 weeks a gastroenterologist was called in by my cousin. My colon was on the verge of bursting. NOT GOOD! Thank God for your cousin. How long did it take you to recover?

Did you have anyone to help you?

That's a great scripture that you have at the end of your email. Did

you know that scripture when you were going through that near

death experience?

How was your day? Karac had an awesome day at SpiritHorse, and

he was so calm here at the house. It would be so wonderful if he

could be that calm every day, but I guess he has a right to his

bad days just like everyone else. Love and blessings, Pat K

I am amazed how long so many of you young mothers have waited to

have children. I was not yet 19 when I had my first baby girl. They

didn't have the pill back then. LOL Pat K

Wow, that really is amazing. Thank God there are people like you out there

willing to give so much of yourself. I occasionally go on the adoption

photolistings for kids in foster care just to look at all of those kids that

need homes and cry for them (is that weird? lol). My husband and I have

discussed possibly doing that when we are older. We had our first at age 22,

which was very young in our circles. But given the level of attention our kids

have required, its a good thing we started young! Our oldest (now 6) is PDD-NOS

and our youngest is 4 1/2 with mild/mod autism. The second was a COMPLETE

surprise (yes- it only takes one time lol) but it turned out to be a good thing.

Even though our youngest does not socialize at ALL with other kids, you should

see him with his brother. They are so precious playing together it nearly brings

me to tears every single day. They help each other in so many ways, and

understand each other better than I can sometimes. They hold hands when they

cross the street, help each other get their shoes on, build tents and forts,

play pirates, share the computer, and I could go on and on. It truly is amazing

to see the bond that they have with each other, especially considering that the

'professionals' see my youngest son's biggest weakness as being 'unable to

relate to others'!! If they could only see him at home with his brother! I thank

God every day that he knew better than I did when I should have that second

child! :)

I made a skirt...oh Lois...it was awful..couldn't get the seem straight couldn't get the dang zipper in, couldn't make the zipper straight, as it buckled up, I hated it, and I know that's why I got a C...it was attitude too...long story, I'm sure there were other things about that class that was awful....can't remember blocked it out. My teachers liked me but she and my typing teacher (all three times LOL) were not very fond. LOL

I love that the teacher retired when she realized it was your child for whom she made booties...too funny, Lois.

e, I have you beat; I made a D in home ec. because I could not sew.

I had to rip the hem in the cup towel I was making three times, and I don't thin

I ever got it finished.

After I matured I had a friend who tried to teach me to sew and I sewed the

material into the machine; then I sewed the arm hole facings into the neck.

Finally, my friend said, "Well, Pat you have other talents" so I went back

to school to become and LMFT. ha, ha, ha, Pat K

I told DH where you live and asked if he thought they would have Mueller fire hydrants.

He said they are in every state in the union, but more in some then others.

When DH first started selling them I was embarrassed; I thought who buys fire hydrants?

Well, enough cities around her bought them to pay to put our kids through college and to

pay for our retirement. Just show you how ignorant I was. ha, ha ha. Pat K

Lois you are so funny...Ok, I'll share one more :) I had a history teacher in college (before the sexual discrimination stuff :) and he would walk by during tests and rub my leg...he did it twice, and then he asked me if I'd be his aid......right! I said NO and moved to the center of the isle LOL --- I was too young to think of reporting...and too young to care. Looking back I wish I knew what I do today....I was 18 (oh my that was 24 yrs ago...YIKES!!!!).

Oh my......too much.
