To me, those bananas are READY TO EAT. I won't eat them once they smell

ripe or start to get spots.

But I also wanted to say, when I buy bananas that color, they are ripe

overnight without any special help. And within two days of sitting on the

counter, they would be really overripe and my dogs would enjoy them :)

LOL, no, that's just how Simone prefers to eat them. Some people like them

riper (yellow with brown spots) when the starch has turned more to sugar.

Some people prefer them starchier. Some people like them in between.

How does Alan like his? THAT'S when you should take them out of the sack.

Do remember, every time you open the sack, you let out the gas that is

ripening them.

Could just be the color showing on my screen -- plus, everyone's different,

that's why they usually have a stack of green bananas and a stack of yellow

ones in the store ....

LOL, I'm so picky about my bananas being just the right color I only buy a

few and go back to the store often.

I have 5 dogs and they all love bananas, so I buy extra for them and

sometimes they ripen so fast that the dogs get most them and I have to go

searching for more greenish ones :)

Melody,

If you ever have bananas that are over ripe, you can peel them then freeze

them and use them in recipes.

Hi .

Here is my husband making his first banana ice cream (using frozen bananas of

course) in the Vitamix. What else would a person use frozen bananas for??

Thanks much

Pam.

I am not opening up the bag until Monday. Maybe Sunday I'll take a little peek.

I have tomatoes in the bag too. I feel like an Amish housewife, I'm ripening up

bananas and tomatoes, I'm putting potatoes in bowls, I have onions in other

bowls. I make Vitamix ice cream.

What else am I going to be learning at my age (64)??

This is beyond cool.

Last night I gave a small talk on Diabetic Neuropathy in NYC at a support group

for people with Neuropathy. They all know I sprout, they all know I take Methyl

B-12. They all know I eat organic (and healthrully)as much as possible. But they

all ate Pizza!!! And cookies, and brownies.

lol

How fun!

You can put them into the refergerator to stop them from ripening.

I am now correctly ripening my bananas

Hi all.

Some lovely person very kindly sent me some brown paper bags. My original green

bananas went to heaven, so today I purchased some semi-green bananas. No one

here had any yellow so I figured " go the paper bag route " and of course I MADE A

VIDEO.

Okay, when do I get to peek in the bag. Today is Friday. Maybe Monday??

I only buy three bananas at a time. I buy those that are just slightly green

near the stem. My wife and I split a banana every morning for the potassium and

other nutrition.

I have no problem with the bananas ripening on the kitchen table.

Mel, you would really freak out if you saw a red or purple one. Yes, they do

come in other colors.

I'm with you, Mel! A banana w/o brown spots has no taste at all, IMO. I've never

understood how people can eat them that way. They're hard and unpleasant. Part

of the joy of eating fruit is the beautiful fruity aroma that you get when the

fruit is ripe (again, IMO, when it has an aroma!) As we all know, a large part

of taste is smell. So I don't think you're missing anything good by not eating a

green/ish banana.

With all due respect to Simone.

I had 3 unripe tomatoes. I put them in the bag. I figure SOME OF THEM have to

give off gas as they ripen and maybe they will help each other.

I'm a work in progress, but lucky you, you can see the finished product when I

video it.

I do remember Chiquita Banana, I worked for the parent company, United Brands.

But I don't remember her singing that. When you put bananas in the refrigerator,

the skin turns dark, but the inside stays the same.

ew,

Too bad we don't have sound transmission via Yahoo Groups. I could sing

the song for you. Uh...on second thought, maybe it's lucky we DON'T have sound!

It was a catchy song, though. We heard it often in Illinois, usually WBBM or WGN

radio. I'm thinking on Saturday nights during Your Hit Parade!

I have put bananas in the fridge, and the skins turn black as you say. And the

inside is still good. Maybe Chiquita never looked beyond the black outsides?
