Does anyone know of any non-hormonal supplements that can help with very dry skin? I've heard that oils like flaxseed, borage seed and evening primrose are good for dry skin, but I'm uncertain how much one should take of these. The borage and evening primrose oil are high in omega 6 fats and too much of these are pro-inflammatory.Does anyone have any suggestions on supplements and dosages? Thanks.

Are you on Crixivan? (Just checking) This drug can cause excessive dry skin and chapped lips. A dose of 1300 mg twice a day of Primrose oil has been used for skin conditions.

AIDS is not over. There are 40 million people infected with HIV and 20 million people have died so far while 14,000 people are infected every day. Only 5% of those needing treatment get it. Most PWAs in the world are dying helplessly while rich nations watch. We will be remembered by future generations as the people who allowed greed and profits to be more important than human suffering and lives.

First, the thoughts below are great! Second--not sure that omega-6 are so

pro-inflammatory!! To the contrary. There are different varieties of

omega-6 and the ones in evening primrose, for example, may help in

conditions like eczema. Still, I think omega-3 in fish oil is probably

better. The BEST is probably hemp oil!

But perhaps better might be to get a nice emollient or skin lotion to

moisturize the skin. My calves get awful dry (maybe age-related, maybe HCV

related? don't know)--but I just use some lotion acquired from stays in

hotels at conferences and such. So I don't have a specific recommendation

for a particular one. Aveda has good products and they are very socially

aware, produce environmentally sound products that recognize the need for

conservation, etc.

I have been on Crixivan since 10/95 and have suffered from excessively dry skin. My dermatologist prscribed Lac-Hydrin (for the body after showering) and Cleocin for the face. They do help.

Also, I now shower every other day and limit the time I spend showering. No more long hot showers for me. Instead of hot water, I now use warm water.

Make sure the humidity in your bedroom, especially in winter, does not go below 35%.

These have helped me. Hope it helps.

I receive several e-mail asking how people can get Chae produt.

First I want to make clear, THIS IS NOT AT ADVERTISING, the information I give is an Evidence Base I get on my more than 10 years on HIV care.

For good or for bad, Chae sell the right of distribution of her products to a Network marketing Company call Freelife International. Several years ago I work as part of the Medical Liason of the company. I use to have a website who is www.drmelendez.freelife.com You will find an anoucement about a product call Goji, look at your left and will find freelife, press ther and then look for personal care product. The onlyu telephone I know for the company is 1-. I know in the web site you can have anothe thelephone.
