"[T]he witness of their fidelity to the end was ever more powerful than the inspired words that so many of them spoke before surrendering everything to the Lord. In our own time, the price to be paid for fidelity to the Gospel is no longer being hanged, drawn and quartered but it often involves being dismissed out of hand, ridiculed or parodied. And yet, the Church cannot withdraw from the task of proclaiming Christ and his Gospel as saving truth, the source of our ultimate happiness as individuals and as the foundation of a just and humane society." Update on Collaborative to promote teaching of FAM/NFP

Dear Colleagues,

As many of you know, I have been working closely with Dr. Bob Motley to develop a collaborative of health professionals interested in promoting the teaching of natural family planning or fertility appreciation methods to health care trainees. Three weeks ago, we had a great, diverse group of physicians, students and FAM instructors meet at the Family Medicine Education Consortium meeting in Hershey, PA to work diligently to develop priorities for the coming year.

I am excited to share with you about the success of our workshop. I have posted the minutes to our collaborative web-site and so I invite those of you interested to join our collaborative to review our progress.

Here's how to join:

Go to www.fmec.net

On the Left sidebar, choose Collaborative Projects

On the page that follows, click the Fertility Awareness Methods Educational Collaborative (FAME) "join this project"

Enter your name (as you would like it to appear to the rest of the group---it will also be your log in name)

Complete the rest of the fields and submit.

Once it is submitted, I will approve your membership and you can go into the group files to review the minutes from our workshop, as well as previous documents outlining the work that we have done to date. In a few weeks, we will post the SMART goals that will help guide our work and which will highlight more specific ways in which you can be involved.

In addition to the pre-conference work-shop, at the regional meeting there were also a couple of seminars and a poster presentation about fertility appreciation methods that helped inform the family medicine community. Overall, the material was well received and it encouraged those of us there that we can begin to make a difference in the larger health care community.

Thanks in advance for taking the time to read the minutes and for sharing your comments on the work that was done. One thing to note, the group proposed to change the name and acronym of the collaborative to more accurately reflect our purpose. The new name would be: Fertility Appreciation Collaborative to Teach the Systems - FACTS.

Many thanks for your interest and support and Happy Thanksgiving to all of you.

Sincerely,

Marguerite Duane
