Guest guest
Hey all - Going home tomorrow or Saturday and will catch up this weekend. YIPPEE! BTW it was nice to meet you folks in Chicago. Thanks everyone for answering about tort and plagio sides. I am now convinced that everyone is different. Lillian's head is flat on right back but it seems that her neck is tight on the left side. I've been told by peds right tightness, right weakness, etc. but not left tightness which is my suspicion and I was just trying to sort it out, again! - I have found so many opinions from professionals and we are tx the plagio but have come to realize that the tort is the more important issue and needs to be watched(Lori would probably agree). I have been stretching Lillian's neck (with no pt or other professional advice or direction) since she was 3 mos old - 1 year now and there is still a bit of tilt(thank God I did start the excercises even without peds assistance). And something we talked about a few months ago on this site is that these babes with tort problems tend to ignore the side of the body and hand that they look away from - anyone want to chime in here feel free. BTW, Occipital Plagiocephaly(OP) is generally the same term as pp. The occipital lobe of the brain is the back area(corresponding with the occipital area on head) then there is the temporal and parietal and frontal. Alright, jus one more comment and we're off to Pa! We went for our daily walk and met a mother and her 2 yr old boy. Immediately we got into this conversation about our kids because she said her boy was small and was having some gross motor delays. I immediately noticed that he tilted his head (his head looked fine) - face to his right and later in the conversation mentioned it. (I didn't want to be rude and blurt it out until we got to talking). I mentioned she may want to have him checked for tort becasue he is having similar gross motor delays as some kids here and her peds and neuros were telling her that he doesn't have cp or md but that his brain is simply working in a fasion like a dumb jock football player, powerful but not too bright like a dr with brain but no common sense. He's got a short stalky body yet is not coordinated. Shoot, now I can't remember what exactly she said it was dx as(Something like dystonia or aproxia) but I wondered if anyone had ever heard of it. He apparently has some mild muscle tone problems but only in some areas - guess what the peds said? - As he gets more active he'll start using the muscles more and they'll tone up(common remark from peds these days I guess!) She also swore that it was from sleeping on his back(ironic isn't it) she said because she felt he did nothing while on his back unlike on the stomach he would have excercised.
