The Executive Council of the Association for Behavior Analysis finished its fall meeting earlier this month and I am writing on its behalf to thank you for submitting the application for special interest group status of Practitioner Issues in Behavior Analysis (PIBA). The ABA Executive Council was supportive of your efforts on behalf of the practice constituency and appreciated your initiative in developing a forum to support this important segment of the ABA membership. The Council reviewed the application and approved the SIG’s status with ABA. Congratulations! ABA's Special Interest Group support manual, which includes an outline of the ways ABA supports SIGs and contact information of other SIGs, among other topics, is available on the ABA SIG Web site: http://www.abainternational.org/Special_Interests/SIG06.pdf. I hope you find this to be a useful tool for administrating the Practice SIG. As well, we will be happy to include information about the SIG on ABA’s Web site to help disseminate information on your behalf. Please let us know the following, as it is relevant to the SIG, and we will be happy to post it: SIG mission/objectives: Description of membership: Recurring annual events: Publications/newsletters: Description of how the SIG is specifically of interest to behavior analysts: Please e-mail this information for inclusion on the Web page as soon as possible. You might be aware that ABA SIGs participate in the ABA Expo. The 2008 Expo is scheduled on 5/25/2008 (10-12 pm). We will be happy to include your SIG in the Expo. If you are interested in participating, please send me a title and abstract by December 3rd. Each year, all SIGs provide an annual report to the ABA Executive Council, relating activities of the past year and plans for the following year, as well as requests for various data (on membership, contact information updates, etc.). These reports are due on April 15th. A month before, we will send you a link to complete the report on-line. In order for you to maintain your SIG status with ABA, your report must be received on time by the deadline. You might be delighted to know that in recognition of the critical importance of the practitioner component of ABA membership, as a result of the recent Executive Council discussions, the formation of a Practice Board was approved. Our president, Janet Twyman, will serve the interim Practice Board Coordinator. She will provide information concerning the Board and the relevance to behavior analysis and other practice-oriented organizations in the upcoming ABA Newsletter, which will be released next week. The Board will welcome your support and collaboration. Again, congratulations on the formation of the PIBA SIG. Sincerely, E.
