Guest guest
I guess you are right but the other side is there is some advantage when the responsible doctor has 20+yrs experience treating the PTN! His " guess " was always correct. I have more concern with the driver that tapes a bottle of urine to his/her body so they can pass a drug test. In fact, speaking of drug tests I once had 6 monthly " random " tests in a row! I made the comment that if my name got pulled the 7th month they had to send me to LosVegas for a week! Never got pulled again in over 3 yers! How do you spell random?!! And now is the time to worry about the " Snowbirds " on the I95 corridor. They are 70+yo individuals driving a large motor home, usually too slow and drive it exactly 2 times a year, NO PHYSICAL REQUIRED! I had over 3/4 million accident free miles in the big rig, even w/HBP! - 65 yo super ob. male - 12mm X 13mm rt. a.adnoma with previous rt. flank pain. Treating with Meds. And DASH. . Guest guest
DOT physicals are for anyone with a CDL, whether they drive inter or intrastate. The last 3 I've gotten (renewed every 2 years) they've let me lay in a darkened room for 5-10 minutes + took my reading while I was still laying down before they got BP reading that would pass. The 1st one was explained away by the fact that I had just come from a friend's memorial service (2 blocks away), the 2nd that I had just disembarked from a 16 hour trans Pacific flight and the last one (this year) was I was held up in traffic and almost didn't make it before they closed. Personally I knew that my BP had been slowly climbing the last few years, but the doctors said my stories had validity and made the allowances. I took myself from behind the wheel several months ago when my BP got really high for fear I would pop a blood vessel when yet another driver pulled in front of me and slammed on their brakes.... Fortunately I have that luxury; unfortunately, too many drivers don't. Donna Your mention of the medical card required for interstate commercial drivers reminds me of when I used to need one. <snip>I used to have mine done by my PCP who was a personal friend....He would never lie but sometimes he took it 6 or 7 times before he was able to get number he liked!
