Hi teresa,

Although hcv isn't easily contracted, it can be through blood. If someone was

bleeding from a cut etc. and you bandaged them or washed them off and their

blood got in an open cut on you, you could get this. It is very possible you got

this before you were married. I have had this for 30 years. I know when I got it

because in my teen years I used needles and was in Parkland hosp. in isolation

for two months. If you shave with a friends razor and they knicked themselves

and you cut yourself with the razor, you can get it. It really doesn't matter

how long you've had it, just that you get to a doctor and get whatever treatment

is available. Don't beat yourself up about how and when...focus on recovery.

This is a question I am posting to all of my groups ... a question that really

bugs at me. I notice ALOT that there are quite a large number of fellow

" heppers " who say things like " I contracted Hep C so many years ago, but just

got diagnosed so and so years ago " . The question is ... How do you know how

long you have had it? I have busted my brains trying to figure out how I got

this beast . . and when! In my 43 years, I cannot recall any time where I would

have contracted it ... and my husband of 23 years is negative! HELP HELP HELP!

I know some of you were diagnosed with an " unknown hepatitis " years ago, but

what about the rest of you who just found out but can say it was years ago? Is

there a number from a test that can say it must have been so long ago or

something?

Some know a particular incident like recieving blood after

surgery, accident and so forth. Some are like myself. Healthcare

workers who have recieved needle sticks and those are documented.

Some figure it was from iv drug use and they remember how old they

were. I have been covered in blood at times when I worked the ER

when I was younger in a rural hospital. So hun, you probably will

not remember a particular incident. You could have been bandaging a

bloody cut on a friend and you had a open sore and you got it that

way or was blood brothers(in your case sister) with a friend with

Hep C. Remember as kids we did that? Well some of us did.LOL

You may remember a incident some day but maybe you won't. The

important thing is that you take care of yourself. Do what is best

for you. And my favorite saying is " Don't sweat the small stuff " .

Thanks, Janet! You are right, wondering does not help. I've been the route of

" blood sisters?, ear piercings?, blood transfusions?, jet gun vaccine? ..... I

pretty much give up! I am back tracking my medical records to see where that

gets me, then I am done!

Thanks, ! I've thought about all that .... and I will probably never know.

I have been the treatment route, once, but had to quit because of VERY serious

sides. Luckily, I am in very good condition with my liver and all, so I can

hold out for another more tolerable treatment.
