Our son Wyatt just turned 2 on Sept 2nd and is currently scheduled to have surgery on Nove 3rd. He went from a 45 degree curve to a 70 degree curve over the past 4 months. Our hospital does not participate in casting but the thought of surgery for our 2 year old is extremely frightening. I want to try to get Wyatt into the nearest Shriners Hospital which I believe is in Chicago to look into casting as an alternative to surgery (as far as I can tell, Shriners is the only hospital offering casting). Here are our main questions: If we don't have a Shriners member as a referral then can we still get care at a Shriners Hospital? Do we need to have our current Dr. give a referral to Shriners? I'm sure I have many more questions but I'm just looking for a place to start getting us in the right direction. Thanks for all your help and support.
