Guest guest
The only thing I find annoying about blood clinics is the wait. You have 2 1/2 hours before actually having the needle stuck into you. Janick who's fiance is always discouraged by the wait and usually ends up not giving blood Really? I have never had to wait to donate blood. Hmmmm I guess thats a good thing that there are so many donors at that clinic. As Deb has said: " Fitness is a journey and it begins with the first step. Guest guest
OK I suspect there may be a difference between countries, but many years ago I was rejected as a blood donor and have not tried since. Trouble is now even with little blood tests I tend to faint (after teh whiplash)! Jill well don't donate if it will cause you health propblems. Its good you tried ;-)
Guest guest
, I totally agree with your post. Early in our marriage, hubby and I would go every few months to donate blood. After a bad experience with an " inexperienced " nurse, we stopped going, I guess you could call it " gun shy. " A few years ago, we had a blood drive at work and I decided to try it again. For 2-3 weeks afterward, I felt like my energy was drained from me along with my blood! LOL! I would love to try donating again, but am fearful of that awful feeling. Ann Marie - who by donating blood years ago feels like she perpetually supplied the blood that her parents received through transfusions Ann Marie- Next time you are at the doctor maybe you should ask them about that. At the absolute most you should only feel it for 48 hours. I am usually fine about an hour later. In fact I have to mentally tell myself not to do things. Our body replaces the blood very fast. Who is glad so many people have donated or at least attempted to donate...I wasn't trying to make anyone feel guilty by the way. I just know its one of those things people forget about doing. Guest guest
<< But I wanted to take this oppurtunity to get a little preachy with my friends and aquaintances. If you are eligible to be a regular blood donor, please consider it >> , I completely agree. I used to donate every 8 weeks. Then, I became anemic and my doctor recommended I only donate 3 times a year, which I happily and faithfully do. My company even buys lunch for those of us who wish to donate. Just a reminder for those who might try to donate for the first time -- the juice and cookies are not just for hospitality. They restore your blood sugar so eat, drink and be merry!! :-)
Guest guest
, Yeah, I thought it was odd too to feel lousy for a long period after. I had never experienced that after donating many times before. I figured it was just my age, you know how things seemed easier when we did them years ago. LOL! Don't sweat it, no guilt was inflicted on me! BTW - are the bone marrow donations painful? Ann Marie - who feels donating blood is the best thing a person can do if they're able I have no idea if they are painful or not. It requires minor surgery. I'm just on the list of potential donors. No one has matched me yet.

If you are eligible to be a regular blood donor, please consider it. Many of us don't have time to be at the soup kitchen every weekend or to mentor a small child. When we don't help others in some way we miss out on that wonderful feeling. " I did something good for someone else today " or " I might have saved a life today " . I give every 8-10 weeks when I am feeling well. I workout before I donate or I take the day off from working out. I pamper myself afterwards and the ladies at the center pamper me with juice, cookies and compliments. Its a good feeling, you should give it a try. > with love, > > who is a registered blood donor and on the list of willing bone marrow donors. , I completely agree with you. I always try to get to the blood donor clinic when it comes into town. I haven't given blood in a year though because first of my pregnancy, than my post partum. I went to give blood in June and they turned me away because I was 2 months post-partum... The only thing I find annoying about blood clinics is the wait.
