Guest guest
Here we had some discussions about certain medical conditions under which a person craves for salt. It appears that your pickle binge was due to salt craving...just a guess. Max. | |I've finally had time to read back through many archived messages on this Board |as well as begin the DASH book. I'm wondering if it's possible for too much salt |to truly send one into crisis if they have Conn's? I only ask this because I went on |a " pickle binge " not long before I ended up in the hospital. I ate a LOT of pickles |(I found a brand that was quite good, and they became my evening snack every |night...) They are obviously quite high in sodium (at the time, I wasn't thinking |of the sodium but of the low calorie count!). I didn't think a thing of it until I |started reading all of the posts on here. It seems silly to think that eating large |quantites of pickles could land one in the hospital with extreme tachycardia, but |I figured it wouldn't hurt to ask (esp. since my excessive pickle eating is literally |the ONLY diet/lifestyle change that I can point to in the couple of weeks leading |up to the ER visit and hospital stay). Possible or not likely? | | |

Hmm seems to me you answered your own question. Some are equisitily sensitive to sodium. High K blunts this effect in some it seems. Possible or not likely? Almost certain. Can you estimate how much sodium you stuffed down with your pickle binge. That will give you an idea of your limit. But if you doubt it you can always try it again. But I would not recommend it. CE Grim MD
Guest guest
Aldo is a good stimulus of the salt appetite center. Indeed when you get very salt depleted aldo goes very high and this kicks in not only the salt conserving effects of saliva, sweat, stool and urine and drives you to find salt. If you don't find it you die. Not sure if this works in PA though depending on how much aldo one is making and how sensitive you brain is to the aldo effect on salt appetite.Good read is Denton's Hunger for Salt.CE Grim MD Here we had some discussions about certain medical conditions under which a person craves for salt. Guest guest
Very helpful! Would ANYONE likely have had this reaction to so much sodium or is this something that would be unique to a Conn's patient? Trying to determine if this could be something " diagnostic " of Conn's (or another syndrome/condition) or just an interesting cause/effect of eating too much salt in general. > > > I've finally had time to read back through many archived messages on > > this Board as well as begin the DASH book. Guest guest
I would think every one has a limit on sodium intake. Some just higher then others. If you have conn's you have lost your normal sodium control system. > > > > > > > I've finally had time to read back through many archived messages on > > > > this Board as well as begin the DASH book.
