Shauna,We were told it is less radiation than flying in a plane from L.A. to New York, and a lot of families fly with small kids all the time. I think the benefits outway the risks, I just feel we don't have a choice to not do them. It's of course totally normal to worry, but I think your husband has a great point. Hey Everybody,

I just wanted to write with a concern I had. Kind of weird I just now have this concern after Hadley's already been through 8 casts and tons of Xrays, but I never really thought anything of it until Saturday.

We were at my husbands family's house and his sister is a xray technician. She asked if they put an apron on Hadley when doing x-rays. I said, no. Then her and her cousin(a nurse) started going in about how dangerous that is. Then another guy joined in. At this point my stomach was turning upside down. They were saying she could become sterile and chances of her getting cancer are very high.

I told them I don't know where they would put an apron seeing that her spine is her whole body except arms, legs, head. They couldnt protect her little organs without not being able to see her whole spine.

After that trying to reassure me, She said nowadays, a lot of hospitals use just a low shot of radiation for xrays thats not as bad... it's like standing in front of a microwave, but she said its fairly new and a lot of places don't use that yet.

I talked to my husband and he brought up a good point. At this time, we need to be concerned with Hadley and correcting her spine and we have to do what it takes. I understand this completely, but theres a small fear in me now about X-rays.

Does anybody have any input about this? We go to Chicago, does anybody know if they use the low dose of radiation? Should I be concerned at all?

Thanks for listening!

Shauna

Try Wikipedia. A while back, I believe that someone (Dr. Grim?) provided information or a link to information on the dangers of xrays. I searched xrays here but couldn't find anything. Does anyone recall this conversation, have the link or have any information on the dangers of xrays? Thanks, Lucy
