Guest guest
Are any of you using hormonal contraceptives of any kind? And if so, does it impact your blood pressure at all? My medical team had hoped that the adrenalectomy would resolve my issues with polymenorrhea, but it's been almost three months since the surgery and no improvement in that area. My GP thinks my quality of life would be better on combined oral contraceptives to control the polymenorrhea. I've got mixed feelings, mainly because there are a few papers on PubMed demonstrating a link between estrogen in HRT feeding the growth of hepatic hemangiomas (I've got one). I realize OCs aren't quite the same as HRT, but I'm still wary. I'm also a bit concerned about the impact the estrogen will have on my now-normal BP. I guess there's only one way to find out, and my plan is to wait another month then give it a try. But if any of you have any experience with this, please share. Thanks! -msmith1928 Nulliparous female, 46, 5'3 " , 115 lbs, CT showed 1cm left adrenal nodule, AVS determined disease is unilateral, had left laparoscopic adrenalectomy on 10/13/2011. Guest guest
Only way to tell in an individual is to try. But can cause severe HTN in some. When the rubber hits the road statistics do not apple to the individual. They just make it possible to hedge your bets that A is better that no A. Measure BP daily I would recommend. Was poly-menorrhea when on spiro ? If so should be getting better. CE Grim MD Are any of you using hormonal contraceptives of any kind? And if so, does it impact your blood pressure at all? Guest guest
Thanks Dr G. Polymenorrhea goes back to my teenage years, long before spiro - I took combined oral contraceptives from age 14 to about 40 with no known problems. I stopped them only because I thought they might have been contributing to my HTN (before I knew I had a tumor causing the HTN) but after stopping them my BP did not go down. The short time I was on spiro, my at the time every-15-to-20-days cycle of polymenorrhea cycle became nonstop. After stopping spiro, this diminished to every 9 to 13 days, where it has stayed ever since. It's getting a bit tiresome. If I do go the combined oral contraceptive route, I'll definitely check my BP daily. I've been trying to be less obsessive about it since the surgery but it's a hard habit to break > > > Are any of you using hormonal contraceptives of any kind?
