Hey everyone! After being diagnosed in April I made it my mission to beat the anxiety related to PA and try to put my life together. Fast forward 7 months and I only go to therapy once per month and I have been working full time for 7 weeks now! It feels great to contribute to my family again.

Question for all of you that have been dealing with this condition for much longer than me. What are some strategies for dealing with heat? I work in an office, but I live in St. Louis and weather can be goofy. A couple of weeks ago it was in the 50s and today the high was 88. My office hasn't had the AC on so the office has gotten kind of hot the last couple of weeks.

This has caused some cramping (charlie horses at night) and made me feel pretty rotten. I got a blood draw for K the morning after bad leg cramps and I was at 4.5 for k. I still DASH and exercise and seem only to get the cramps at night if I am in the heat all day at the office.

One of the things I have noticed is that if I eat more salt on the hot days I feel better and my BP actually goes lower the next day. I found this out by accident. I was working late (a 12 hour day) and the office brought in food for all of us. It was pizza and loaded with sodium. It actually helped me feel better that day (very hot in the office). The next morning my blood pressure averaged 108/72, down from my usual range of 120-130/78-88.

What are some good ways to deal with the heat? Eating more salt is tough since I really like my new DASH low sodium diet. Is gatorade or powerade a good way to go? I am thinking that maybe the cramps and heat intolerance is due to dehydration due to the spiro being a diaretic. My k has been between 4.2 and 4.9 for all of my draws since starting the Spiro after diagnosis 7 months ago.

, do/did you have any other symptoms of PA other than BP, I'm thinking of

frequent or night time peeing or pains other than the charlie horse? I had my

BP under control with Spiro. at 25mg bid for 10 months prior to all SX resolving

when I got my NA low enough. I used to get those type of charlie horse pains,

primarily after going to bed. I never related it to PA but now that you mention

it I haven't had any since all SX resolved in April! My K ran constantly ran at

4.8!

- 65 yo morb. ob. male - 12mm X 13mm rt. a.adnoma with previous rt. flank &

testicle pain. I have decided against an adrenalectomy at this time since

Meds. are working so well. Current BP(last week ave): 122/73

Other Issues/Opportunities: OSA w Bi-Pap settings 13/19, DM2. and PTSD.

Meds: Duloxetine hcl 80 MG, Mirtazapine 7.5 MG, Metoprolol Tartrate 200 MG,

81mg asprin, Metformin 2000MG and Spironolactone 50 MG.

My blood is drawn by the same lab where K was routinely 3.5 or lower so I think

everything is done right. I also had my blood drawn at the Wash U Endocrinology

lab and the results were 4.5, 4.8, and 4.6 during this same time span.

My symptoms have mostly resolved. I just have a tough time in heat. If I eat

high salt my BP seems to go down not up. This is very strange as during the

salt loading test my BP went crazy and I ended up in the ER.

I am pretty confident K is accurate since it is the same across different labs

and they are using the same method as they did when my results were in the low

3s.

I make the following a minimum staple of my everyday nutrition:

12 ounces low sodium V8

Spinach salad with Green Pepper, Onion, tomato, cucumbers, red peppers

1 cup raw cauliflower

I generally eat at least 3-4 fruits per day (apples, oranges, bananas,

cantelope)

I generally eat at least 2-4 other veggies on top of above (raw green peppers,

cucumbers, etc)

My diet is pretty solid.
