Guest guest
I've just begun a 5-year regimen of anastrozole (Arimidex), an aromatase inhibitor, to help prevent recurrence of estrogen-positive breast cancer. Since this drug works by affecting hormones produced by the adrenals, I'm wondering if there are any potential adverse effects it might be expected to have on someone with hyperaldosteroniam ?? Could it affect my electrolite balance? By the way, Dr. Grim, my friends, Drs. Danny and Helen Sun send your their regard. Thanks so much for your help. Callie 64-year-old female diagnosed with PHA in May of 2009 after 6 trips to the emergency room with heart attack-like symptoms, high blood pressure, and low K. Nodules on both adrenals. Took 50mg spiro for two years before being diagnosed with breast cancer. Immediately discontinued spiro after BC diagnosis, and now control BP completely with high K, low Na diet. (Have learned that low Na is as important--if not more important--than high K in my diet.) Feel well and strong again after stopping the spiro. (The spiro controlled the BP, but I still had other symptoms that have stopped since stopping the spiro.) I take no other drugs except Arimidex. I take a few food supplements, e.g. calcium, Vit D, Aloe.
