If my memory is still working, in Spanish it was

Hi Lucia,

Saludos,

Rita Damo

Dear Rita, andre and Ester,

Thank you for your input.

However, what puzzles me is: is " Taurodeoxycholic acid " the same as

" deoxycholic acid " ?

I know that deoxycholic acid is translated as ácido desoxicólico, as

confirmed by Rita, but ... how about Taurodeoxycholic?

Thanks you in advance if someone knows if these are the same or not...

Lúcia

Hi Lucia:

my rather old Merck Index does not list taurodeoxycholic acid, but I found

these:

taurine = 2-aminoethanesulfonic acid

taurocholic acid = N-choloyltaurine or 2-[[......]amino]ethanesulfonic acid

I think if you put just the Pertuguese equivalent for " tauro " in front of

" ácido desoxicólico " , you should be OK.

See you at the ATA convention!

French-speaking forumites can find an explanation of the chemical

difference between taurocholic acid and taurodeoxycholic acid in

http://www.ulg.ac.be/physioan/chapitre/ch5s2.htm. In short, both are bile

acids, only the taurodeoxycholic acid is a secondary bile acid

(http://hometown.aol.com/chiaungo/profes/l-c-f-04.htm) and, as Rita already

explained, it has a H instead of a OH in position 7.

I would translate it as ácido taurodesoxicólico (and " sal sódica del ácido

taurodesoxicólico " or " taurodesoxicolato de sodio " ).

Thank you for all of you that helped me with Taurodeoxycholic acid,

sodium salt.

As suggested by and Ursula, I will stay with sal sódico de ácido

taurodesoxicólico.

Have a nice Sunday!
