Trust they did the Grim Good test and collected a 24 hr urine yesterday to today for Na,K and Creatinine and measure plasma renin and aldo. If not they will not be able to interpret the results.I am not sure we have your complete story and need a thumbnail to help me at least keep you separate from the other 600 folks here like you-more or less.CE Grim MD A year ago I was told I had lymphoma on my aorta near the kidney. 6 weeks later a repeat CT scan was done and it was clean; there was absolutely nothing there.... I have a terrible pain under my left ribs and it seems to get caught on my ribs occasionally. It feels like an enlarged(something???). I can feel it move under my ribs when I change position and I have a weird pulsating sensation in that location too. I had an MRI done 3 months ago and it too was clean. Besides the pain, I have been very sick (dehydrated, low K, frequent urination, spells of extremely high BP, weight loss, and a feeling of being unwell). I think Conns sound logical, do you? What are my imaging options for finding out what this is? My metanephrine test was negative. Had a renin test done today.

What can be seen on scans depends on how new the scanners are. Since replacing

them is very expensive most places will not have the best one out there. Most

places should have scanners that will show something 3 MM in size. It is also up

to the skill of who is reading the scan to determine what they are seeing.

What you would need to do is get both scan results and have them read by the

same Dr and see what that Dr says. Many places can provide a CD that has the

scan on it.

You can look at body models and see what is in the area of the pain. What brings

on the pain and what makes it feel better?

Low K can affect you in many ways even cause pain.

In addition to the experience of the Dr. reading,it often depends on what they

are looking for. In my case I had kidney stones, which they saw, but they never

noticed the adrenal adenoma. 5 years later they found it and low and behold it

ws also on the earlier scan!

Information on one of Mayo new scanners.

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. — A new, high-definition computerized tomography (CT) scanner

capable of seeing internal structures in the human body as thin as a grain of

sand is now in place at Mayo Clinic in Arizona and shows promise of setting the

new standard for clarity in CT imaging.

Called the LightSpeed CT750 HD, the device has the potential to transform the

way physicians diagnose and treat life-threatening diseases. The system detects

small images with greater clarity (33 percent greater detail through the body

than traditional scans and up to 47 percent greater detail in the heart) and is

seen as a key enhancement in detecting potential medical problems.

The bottom line for patients is that not only does the scanner greatly improve

the speed and quality of the images, the dose of radiation can be reduced up to

50 percent across the entire body and as much as 83 percent for cardiac scans.

The new LightSpeed scanner at Mayo is one of only two in use to date in the U.S.

The system, developed by GE Healthcare, uses a new scintillator (a substance

that glows when hit by high-energy particles) design that was developed by

changing the molecular structure of garnets, a group of minerals used as

gemstones that are popular in jewelry-making. Using bright yellow garnets,

engineers were able to develop a scintillator capable of delivering image data

100 times faster.

" This promising new scanner lets us look at an image in far greater detail and

with significant radiation dose reduction, a combination that is a technological

leap in enhancement of patient care, " said Amy Hara, M.D., Diagnostic Radiology,

Mayo Clinic in Arizona. " Importantly, this more focused imaging will hopefully

enable physicians to diagnose disease earlier and with greater accuracy. "

One of the first Mayo patients to be evaluated by the new CT scanner (the week

of July 21, 2008) had previously been recommended to undergo conventional

coronary angiography (a more invasive procedure requiring sedation in which a

catheter is inserted into the heart) to evaluate a suspected coronary artery

blockage. Instead, he underwent a coronary artery CT angiogram on the new CT

scanner and was able to avoid the more invasive coronary angiogram and sedation.

Since that initial use of the new scanner, 30 patients were evaluated by the new

high definition device in its first week of operation.

And it would have been a damn good investment back in 2005 but look at all the

fun, friends and knowledge I would have missed! In addition to learning about

Conn's I got to learn about COPD, T2DM, Living w/supplemental oxygen, worsening

OSA, gynecomastia and meeting 600+ new friends! WOW, What an Experience!

Now if we can just get the radioligist to look in the right place! (With our new

automated system maybe we can check # of BP meds and automatically focus on the

adrenal first!)

This would show you there was a tumor in both adrenas but how would you know

they were both producing from a scan?

Siemens makes a scanner that can do 128-slice configurations. Having better

scanners doesn't always mean better DX.

So it looks like your treatment is the same whether there is a tumor in 2 or 1

or zero adrenals! Guess we don't need to spend all that money on a new scanner!
