I have reached toxicity levels with Colchicine already, as manifested by

diarrhea, so I am off Colchi at this point.

Would it be safe to have some Ibuprofen to kill some pain away? I am almost

immobilized, except I can type on the laptop for now.

Have you tried prednisone? Small dose up to 10MG for a short time should help.

At least it did for my brother in law.

I use to have gout often. Here is what I did and it works everytime. And since

the drugs did not work you have nothing to loose.

If colchicine did not work it may not be gout but pseudogout.I would not try the lemon one first as suspect that lemon is acidic. Would stay away from who ever recommended this to make you more "alkaline." If you want to increase uric acid excretion you need to alkalinize the urine. Yes , I took prednisone yesterday and it worked. With a slight limp, I can

walk around a bit.

Colchicine is good.....except for the diarrhea which seems to hit about half who take it. Allopurinol if it tends to reoccur and Ibuprofen is a good NSAID for it but raises BP in some and irritates the gut in others. Naproxen is a good one for gout too.

.......and watch those red meats - high in sodium anyway!

Dependes on dose but here are some. Most that take it will weight gain. Make

sure you do as your Dr says. Do not just stop it.

Side-effects of prednisone can be both short-term and long-term. Some of the

prednisone side effects are as follows:

1.Weight Gain: Weight gain is the most common side-effect of prednisone. Fluid

retention is the main culprit when it comes to weight gain. Another related

prednisone side-effect is accumulation of extra fat in the body. This fat gets

deposited in particular areas like the back, abdomen and face. The weight gained

due to prednisone is lost after cessation of use of steroids.

2.Acne: Acne, commonly known as steroid acne, is one of the side effects of

prednisone use. This acne may occur on the face, back or arms. However, chest is

the most common area of outbreak. There are medications for curing this type of

acne. Acne is not a long-term side effect. It decreases after dosage of

prednisone is reduced

3.Susceptibility to infections: The immune system of a person becomes weak due

to prolonged use of prednisone, due to which the body becomes more susceptible

to internal and external infections.

4.Eyesight: Long term use of prednisone can affect the eyes. It tends to

increase the pressure inside eyes which is known as glaucoma. Long term use of

prednisone can lead to development of cataract. Unlike other side-effects of

prednisone use, cataract does not reduce after the stoppage of prednisone.

5.Insomnia: Loss of sleep, which is known as insomnia is one of prednisones

side-effects as well. Patients on prednisone for a long time find it difficult

to sleep. But this side-effect of prednisone is not very common.

Hi,

I have no data, I have my experience though and lots of advice from forums like

this one that focus on using food to prevent things like gout attacks.

I would rather use the natural method that works for me than use another drug

and then have to weigh up what is worse, the side effects of that drug or the

current pain? Prednisone makes me feel terrible. No thanks.

I would rather get my body ph balanced (or at least less acidic) and avoid the

terrible gout attacks altogether. For me gout attacks tells me that I am too

acidic.

What can I do if I am too acidic? - I can stop all booze and meat for while,

stop acidic foods (google it for a list). I can drink lots of water (with

lemon). I can eat more alkaline foods like leafy green veggies which is

basically DASHING anyway.

BTW I was in emergency a couple days ago, I saw 5 suspected gout cases limp in

the door in 3 hrs. All were big, puffy overweight men in 40s or 50s. This time

of year we can all tend to over eat and if you have a really acidic diet the

Christmas season of eating and drinking can push us over the gout threshold.

In my opinion, it is what you eat from now on that will help prevent any future

gout attacks, even with my PA I don't get gout attacks anymore. It took me a

couple years of gout pain to realize that I was in control of any future gout

attacks. If I ate loads of acidic foods I would most likely get gout.

A lot of times experience is the best teacher but there are always doubters,

Risk factors

You're more likely to develop gout if you have high levels of uric acid in your

body. Factors that increase the uric acid level in your body include:

something about the way the body process oranges that made it less effective

Theory is good but trials are the answer.Example: lets give men estrogens to make their heart disease risk like women. They VA did this years ago.
