Hi ,

Not sure how to send a message back and although the skill you are teaching is

very important...in the meanwhile, if there is a student who tends to " run " or

get lost, there is something called " Project Lifesaver " in NJ which is run by

each county (I don't know if other states provide this as well.) They provide a

tracking device to those diagnosed with autism or alzheimer's and, should the

person become missing, they can be tracked by this device. Our local police

come once per month to change the battery as well, which means they get to know

him and have some experience first hand with the disability.

Just an FYI...in case anyone is interested...they were also very good with

getting my son to keep the bracelet on!!

[VerbalBehavior] " Getting lost " --What skills would you teach?

References?

I was reading the story on being lost on a hike with his

parents.

http://ap.google.com/article/ALeqM5iAMqzN5MVUP5W2xvpdifTvBRzRvQD8SAVK7G0

and some questions came to mind:

Who out there has taught, or knows of, a good program of " what to do " skills

for a student who wanders or might be in a situation of " being lost " ?

Consider additionally that of being in an isolated area and if the student

is non-vocal.

What skills would you teach? How do you teach a discrimination of " being

lost " ?

Are there any papers in the behavioral literature out there on the topic?

Thanks,

Regina F.
